Oh, I Wish

By BERNICE KONIKOW

Marvelous are the myriad thoughts,
That wander through my mind,
A variety of different sorts,
Serious and frivolous intertwined.

I try to capture their essence,
Whimsical though they seem,
Skipping in on gossamer threads,
Fragments fragile as a dream.

Sharing a mystic quality,
A beautiful kaleidoscope,
Awakening creativity in me.

The fleeting glimpse is so enchanting,

Friday Evening

By MINA STONE

This is Friday evening.
As soon as I light my can-
dles — (which I still do
every week) — I begin to get
the old feeling of peaceful-
ness. My table is covered.
But I do not have-any halla
nor do I have any wine on
my table. But my Bobe's pic-
ture is before me.
I can hear Bobe's voice
saying the prayer, lighting
the candles and turning
around to face us children
and smile at us while say-
ing, "Gut Shabbos, kinder-
lach." How wonderful it is to
go back into a world of such
tranquility even for a short
while.

I'd like to write exquisite phrases,
In charming poetry or prose ;
From an elusive chain of reverie,
I have the incentive to compose.

Fashioned me with loving care
Put the skies
in my eyes
a glint in my hair
grace in my feet
and sent me to meet
my true love

Come walk he said and talk with me
of things long past and yet to be
but Time oh Time you played me false
whispered there's time
now's the time to waltz
and so we spun around and around
heads in the clouds
.
feet scarce touching ground

Then suddenly my true love was gone
taken by Death myself left to mourn
now worlds and worlds are we apart
. of lead my feet my eyes my heart
and what of the walks
and what of the talks
oh what of what was to be
