Two-Sided Story

Happy Hanuka

To All Our Friends & Customers

OTTAWA (ZINS) — Al-
though Israeli Prime Minis-
ter Menahem Begin re-
ceived a warm welcome
from the Trudeau govern-
ment during his recent visit
to Canada, the Canadians
closely follow the American
line in not recognizing
Jerusalem as the capital of
Israel.

Dedication of the Hubert
H. Humphrey Parkway in
the American Bicentennial
Park will take place in
Jerusalem on Jan. 5, Paul
Zuckerman, chairman of
the project announced this
week.
Zuckerman expressed re-
gret that he will be unable
personally to participate in
the event, due to a nine-
week illness from which he
is now recovering.
Vice President Walter
Mondale is honorary
chairman of the project
committee.

Zuckerman said the
Hubert H. Humphrey
Parkway project had the
personal blessings of
Golda Meir when the
committee first was or-
ganized under his chair-
manship. He was unable
to attend the funeral
service for Mrs. Meir due
to his illness and the ill-
ness of his wife Helen.

During his illness, at

was cheered by telephone

Zuckerman's wife also
was reported improving,
soon to leave Sinai Hospital,
after a long illness.

a righteous man, a courage-
ous man, one who had be-
come the symbol of the free-

America and Israel.
"It had to be a national
memorial — one which
would speak for all man-

valiant struggle of Ameri-
cans of all faiths and creeds
for freedom and liberty. And
the Hubert H. Humphrey
Parkway will wind through
this magnificent setting —
serving as the centerpiece of
Israel's gratitude for the
loyalty and support of the
American people."

Israeli Prime Minister
Menahem Begin will head
the list of dignitaries par-
ticipating in the dedication.

In Tribute to Golda Meir

The Whole Year Through!

Fields You Tilled
Bred Dignity

By GERALDINE SPILMAN

Standing square with outstretched arms,
You held your lantern high,
Seeking in dark corners,
For those who dared to try.
You firmly grasped unsteady hands,
And set them to their tasks,
Forging a young homestead,
Amidst the Arab masts.

THE DIRECTORS AND OFFICERS

Golda, we see your soft smile in
every verdant plain,
Hear your strong voice amidst
Jerusalem's refrain,
The crusty earth still bears
your print,
And golden domes but reflect a glint
of your brightness.

Now time to gently meet the ones
you've held within,
Sweet children who would never sing,
Mothers whose love would know no flowering,
Sons and Fathers put to early rest,
The many who faced the bitter test of inhumanity,
The dead whose memory you faithfully kept,
Who marched with you in fervent step.

Soar with them above our land and see,
The fields you tilled bred dignity,
The knowledge: we are not a harvest to be spurned,
But precious fruit,
Ripened through the ages,
And blessed with immortality.
