Heights for an additional
period of six months, until
May 31, 1979.

Irving Bernstein, execu-
tive vice chairman of the
United Jewish Appeal, will
address the major gifts par-
lor meeting of the 1979
United Jewish Appeal
7:30 p.m. Monday in the
home of B. Morris Pelavin,
1220 Beard St.
The gathering is for con-
tributors of $2,500 or more.
Ira Marder, president of
the Flint Jewish Commu-
nity Council, announced the
appointment of Ed Powers
along with Dr. Bruce Foote,
associate chairman, and
Elaine Fishler, women's di-
vision chairman.
Bernstein became execu-
tive vice chairman of UJA
in 1969 after serving a
number of years as assis-
tant executive vice chair-
man.
Bernstein developed
and coordinated-the first
UJA National Confer-
ence in Israel. Known as
"This Year in
Jerusalem," it brought
more than 3,000 Ameri-
can Jews to every settle-
ment in the Jewish state,
culminating in a march
through Jerusalem to the
Western Wall.
He is an associate
member of the board of gov-
ernors of the Jewish Agency
in Israel and serves on its
international fund raising
committee. He is a founder
of the Jewish Agency's In-
stitute for Fund Raising in
Jerusalem.
Bernstein was chairman
of the 1969 and 1970 cam-
paigns of the Greater New
York United Jewish Appe-
al's Social Services Di-
vision. He also is a member
