Slomovitz,

tional Fund of Greater De-
troit, urges- buying of trees
in Israel for Hanuka gifts
this year.
"Gifts of trees add signifi-
cance to Hanuka," said
Slomovitz, "for he who
plants trees plants the fu-
ture." Slomovitz said that
the trees benefit Israel by
giving shade,. aiding drain-
age, furnishing timber and
oviding jobs.
JNF has planted more
than 135 million trees and
is now marking its 77th
year. Jewish National Fund
is the sole land reclamation
and reforestation agency in
Israel.

Bloomfield has received a
letter from Pope John Paul
II in response to his message
of congratulations after
Cardinal Wojtyla was.
elected Pope.
Bernbaum, a Polish refu-
gee, wrote to the Pope in
Polish, offering his con-
gratulations and hopes for
world peace.
Bernbaum has been writ-
ing to politicians and other
