A master plan for settle= ment in Judea and Samaria was presented by Drobless to Premier Menahem Begin, chairman of the Ministerial Settle- ment Committee Ariel Sha- ron and members of the WZO Executive. The plan has not yet been approved by the various bodies 'which deal with settlements, but the report said Drobless estimated the expense involved at IL 54 billion. Under the plan, IL 16 bil- lion should be invested next year to settle 8,000 families in 46 new settle- ments in the West Bank. The settlements strip would run- from the Jenin area in northern Samaria, through the heart of Samaria, all the way south to the Hebron mountains. The plan calls for building new settlements alongside the existing ones, in order to "thicken" the Jewish presence in the area. There are now only 1,300 Jewish families in the West Bank. Tavin returned from a three-week visit to the U.S. where he signed an agree- ment between the WZO and the non-Orthodox move- ments. Both movements operate some 3,000 educational in- stitutions throughout the U.S. Ties with them have been very weak so far, he said. The agreement calls for visits of teachers from those institutions who will take special courses on Judaism, Zionism and Is- rael. In addition the de- partment will offer local courses in the 'U.S. The department recently instituted a special section to deal with Jewish kinder- gartens overseas. During his visit, Tavin met with Bernice Tannenbaum, president of Hadassah, and with the executives of the Jewish communal centers 'to discuss the possibility of establishing a wider net- work of Jewish kindergar- tens in the U.S. Seniors' Club BUDAPEST (JTA) -- A Jewish senior citizens' club, the first of its kind in Hun- gary, has opened here. Interfaith Leader Scores Chauvinism in Religion NEW YORK — The president of the National Conference of Chrisitans and Jews has declared that male chauvinism is more deeply embedded in the churches and synagogues than in virtually all other establishment institutions. Dr. David Hyatt-made the statement in the foreword of a new book by Betsy Covington Smith entitled "Breakthrough: Women in Religion." "The male chauvinism of our churches and synagogues is perhaps even more entrenched than most of our other establishment institutions," said Dr. Hyatt. "Indeed, this tradi- tion that only the male can ' truly speak to God for a con- gregation goes back thousands of years to the primitive roots of Judaism and has continued to this day in both Judaism and Christianity." "The current national ef- fort to insure full and equal rights for women is an in- tegral part of the continuing quest for human equality," said Dr. Hyatt.
