career in motion pictures at
the age of 78 with his co-
starring role in Neil Si-
mons' "The Sunshine Boys"
opposite Walter Matthau.
He went on to portray the
title part in the whimsical,
"Oh, God!" and a delightful
cameo as a singing and
dancing mayor in the rock
musical, "Sgt. Pepper's
Lonely Hearts Club Band."
He now comes back to us
as a retired vaudevillian in
"Just You and Me, Kid" in
which he shares laurels
with Brooke Shields, a 14-
year-old kid who made her
starring debut as "Pretty
Baby" just a year ago.
Others in the cast of the
madcap comedy produced
by Jerome M. Zeitman and
Irving Fein (the latter for-
merly producer of the Jack
Benny TV show) are Lor-
raine Gary, Burl Ives, Ray
Bolger, Leon Ames and cap-
ricious Julie Cobb, daugh-
ter of the late Lee J. Cobb,
_ herself earlier this year the
recipient of a Los Angeles
Drama Critics Circle award
for her performance in a re-
vival of Arthur Miller's "Af-
ter the Fall."
Burns, whose real
name is Nathan
Birnbaum, rose to fame
as the male half of the
Burns and Allen show
more than half a century
ago.

Herbert Ross who pro-
duced and directed the bal-
let picture, "The Turning
Point," a study of two
women whose careers are
interwoven with the
classical dance, returns to
the same background with
his forthcoming "Nijinsky."
The film focuses on the ear-
lier period in the life of the
great Russian artist from
his discovery by impresario
Diaghilev to his marriage in
South America in -1913.
Klutznick Urges
Program for Jews
NEW YORK (JTA) —
"The prospect of peace in the
Middle East inaugurates a
new era for the Jewish
people as a people," said
Philip M. Klutznick,
president of the World
Jewish Congress, in his ad-
dress at the Mordecai M.
Kaplan Awards dinner of
the Jewish Reconstruc-
tionist Foundation at the
Hotel Pierre.
Advocating a three-point
program of Jewish religious
pluralism, economic justice
and social equality,
Klutznick stated that in the
area of Jewish religion, the
Jewish people, and in par-
ticular Israeli society, has to
accept the principle of unity
in diversity to "maintain
one another's integrity
while promoting together a
Jewish commonwealth with
a distinct -aura of religios- .
ity."
Klutznick's second
point called for a com-
mitment to justice —
tzedaka, which he con-
siders to be "sound eco-
nomic doctrine no less
than moral principle."
Peace for a Jewish state
must include "the
achievement of economic
fairness and opportunity;
it is a political and moral
challenge of enormous
proportion."
Lastly, Klutznick urged
Israeli society to demon-
strate "that social equality
is not a vain hope which lies
on the doorstep of a peaceful
Israel. The shocking dis-
parities in the distribution
of power and opportunity
between the principle seg-
ments of Israel's population
cry out for adjustment."
