Michigan Technological
University; and in the past
has been on the Engineer-
ing Advisory Committees of
the University of Pittsburg,
Carnegie Tech, Vanderbilt,
MIT and Pennsylvania. He
serves as an adjunct profes-
sor at Wayne State Univer-
sity.
In 1977 he was elected a
member of the National
Academy of Engineering
and is chairman of the
National Materials Advi-
sory Board.
Active in Jewish commu-
nity affairs, he is on the
board of directors of United
Hebrew Schools, is chair-
man emeritus of the Scien-
tists and Engineers Di-
vision of the United Jewish
Appeal and is a member of
the Education and Cultural
Division of the Jewish Wel-
fare Federation. He is a
member of the boards of di-
rectors of both the Detroit
Chapter and National
Technion Society and is a
past president of the Detroit
Chapter.
Harwood is on the advi-
sory council of the Israel/
U.S. Bi-National Founda-
tion for Industrial Research
Development and is consul-
tant to Technion and He-
brew University and the Is-
rael National Council for
Research and Development.
Harwood is currently on a
three-week trip to China as
a member of the U.S. Dele-
gation on Metallurgical Ex-
change with the People's
Republic of China.
