EVERY. SO OFTEN, we
like to repeat this story be-
cause it has such a wonder-
ful moral for some restau-

order never varied . . . a
plate of borscht and a pack-
age of soda crackers . . . The
waiter never bothered even
to ask what Mr. Lipschitz
wanted . . . he put the soup
and crackers in front of him,
and not a word was spoken
by either .. .
Suddenly, one noon, Mr.
Lipschitz called over the
headwaiter and announced,
"I want you should taste
that borscht!" . . . The
headwaiter was taken
aback . . . "For 18 years now
we've served you that same
borscht and never heard a
peep out of you," he pro-
tested "Nevertheless,"
Mr. Lipschitz insisted, "to-
day I want you should taste
it." .
The headwaiter shrugged
his shoulders, leaned over to
taste the borscht then said,
"But where's your soup
spoon?" . . . Mr. Lipschitz
'smiled triumphantly, lifted
a finger, and said, "Ah
HAH!"
The moral? . . . always
check to see if your costum-
ers have correct silverware.
WHEN DINING OUT,
have a heart for the owner of
the eatery . .. He's trying to
make a living in the best
way he can . . . When things
go wrong, believe - it, the
bossman is the last person
in the world who would
want it that way . . . Take a
tip, take him into your con-
fidence and instead of going
away mad, assuring your-
self never to return, let him
know instead, so he has a
chance to rectify whatever
has been done . . . Give the
owner a break . . . He won't
be able to thank you
enough!
19 OUT OF 40 employees
have been replaced since
Fred Rieman took over as
manager at the Maple
House on Orchard Lake and
Maple . . . a 250-seater that
heretofore had mangerial
problems . . . Fred has been
with the company 10 years,
working way up from a bus-
boy, and is considered
among owner Bruce Came-
ron's top men . . . He comes
in as sort of a team . . . along
with Sue MacNabb, assis-
tant manager.
OVERHEARD ... at
Antoinette's, Telegraph
and Joy, "I don't get along
with my wife. She under-
stands me." . . . at Moy's,
Middlebelt and Six Mile,
"My wife leads a double life.
Hers and mine." . . . at
Carl's Chop House, Grand
River, "My wife and I have a
joint bank account. I deposit
it and she takes it out." .. .

York had a minimum. I
don't know what it was but
the girls were wearing it."
. . . at Bloomfield Canopy,
"My wife does wonderful
things with leftovers — she
throws them out." . . . at
Ryan's Roadhouse, 14

tion your wife's judgment.
Look at who she married"

Inn of Farmington, 10 Mile

are vehicles that always
seem to dissolve in the
rain."

that the chicken she served

you gonna eat it or disco

most popular.
