LISTENING
POST
This year, the program will
be under his direction .. .
and open to the public .. .
Nov. 21, at Cong. Bnai
David . . . Rabbi Israel Hal-
pern of Beth Abraham
Hillel Moses will be guest
speaker . . . with singing by
Cantors Hyman Adler of
Bnai David and Louis Klein
of Bnai Moshe . . . plus the
Mosaic Chanters . . . Percy
Swartz is worshipful mas-
ter of Mosaic Lodge.
MOE BRANDWINE re-
calls . . . 13 years ago, dur-
ing the High Holidays, Lou
Levitan, former Israel Bond
director here and now
senior vice president of the
American Society for
•
Technion, came running
into Cong. Bnai David with
a speaker for the annual
Holy Day Bond Drive . . . He
was late because of being in
the hospital all night, where
his wife, Marie, gave birth
to a little boy . . . Moe was
sitting on the bima and
when Lou told him the
story, he promised that "If
I'm still around, I'll attend
that kid's Bar Mitzva, no
matter where."
Recently, Moe and Tillie
were at Steve's Bar Mitzva
in New York, keeping that
13-year-old promise he
made.
SECOND LOCATION
of Dulany's has been opened
by Virginia Hyman
(Leonard), in Dallas, Texas,
to go with her Birmingham
spot . . . Within three days
of her Dallas opening, Vir-
ginia says she sold more
than half the inventory she
opened with.
THIS ACTUALLY hap-
pened to someone . . . Far-
mington police came over to
where a car was parked
with the motor turned off
•. . because the driver said
she didn't want to take a
Chance behind the wheel
after a few drinks . . . gave a
ticket for drunk driving and
put her in jail for six hours
. . . Has she got a case?
A LOCALITE WHO
complains about the short
walk from parking lot to
Sinai Hospital should be
ashamed of himself . . . He
gets up every morning and
walks three miles for the
exercise!
CHARLES. GROSS-
- MAN
watched two
cute little girls playing in
front of the house a few
doors away in Southfield .. .
He mentioned about their
cuteness to neighbor Celia
Abramson and her young
son, Jerry, remarked,
"Their father is a doctor. He
keeps the best ones for him-
self."

WHO SAYS THE youth
of today don't care? . . . And
why so many bad things told
about them instead of the
good? . . . Teenagers of
Royal Oak Kimball High,
for example, raised almost
$5,000 at its recent dance
marathon sponsored by the
Mr. and Mrs. Group, City of
Hope . . . These kids were so
wonderful and cooperative
it was such a pleasure being
there . . . Late in the eve-
ning, some of them were
told the baked goods made
by Mr. and Mrs. gals were
half price . . . "We want to
pay full price," the young
folks said. "After all, the
money goes to City of Hope."
THEY SAID IT wouldn't
last . . . this for sure . . . Al-
most half century ago, 18-
year-olds Ethel Horowitz
and Sol Lakind got married
. . . Through Depression and
all, they stuck it out . . . Re-
sult — recent celebration of
their 48th anniversary.
A PROUD AUNT is
Shelley Lover, manicurist
at Honeywell Barbers in
Honeywell Building . . . Re-
cent birthday brought a
congratulatory phone call
from 15-year-old nephew,
Brian, in Israel since Sep-
tember for his first year of
high school . . . and not
called collect, either .. .
Brian attends ORT School
and lives on *the Ein
Haphoresh Kibutz near
Jerusalem. His brother,
18-year-old Steven, attends
Yeshiva Ohr Sameyach, 60
miles from Jerusalem.
LOU TAUB, one of the
fellows getting his 50-
year-pin, Nov. 29, at
Masonic Temple during
Master Mason Degree
(Warden's Night) by Perfec-
tion Lodge, is captain of his
bowling team, and a pretty
good one at that . . . proving
that people do get better
with age.
Lou Levine, junior war-
den, and entertainment
chairman, is playing the
song, "Second Time
Around" . . . Lou is also a
past master of Perfection.
Present worshipful master
is Mark Silverstein.
HARRY:KRAMER will
take over the reins in
January as new president of
Crescent Shrine Club.
HOW DO YOU spell the
Jewish word for
grandfather asked Pearl
Scissors of Buckles Un-
limited on Coolidge in Oak
Park . . . Although there are
three spelling variations
that we have seen, the cor-
rect one according to Phil
Slomovitz, is zeide . . . and
nobody argues with this
great Jewish journalist.
MARK GRANT, son of
Marion and Jay Grant, is
now practicing law in
Livonia.
DAVID BERMAN, past
master of Mosaic Lodge,
originated its Memorial
Night in 1950 as a tribute to
its deceased brothers .. .
