years with the Israel De-
fense Forces. He was its di-
rector of the educational
branch in the general head-
quarters in charge of the
Yediat Ha-Aretz (Know-
ledge of the Land) program.
He fought in the state's
war of independence, as a
platoon commander and in
1949 was appointed as an
education officer of a_
brigade.. In 1950 he was an
education officer of the Ter-
ritorial Central Command
and from 1960 to 1963 he
was the commander of the
