LISTENING
POST

WHILE RECUPERAT-
ING at Sinai Hospital from
a heart attack, and "feeling
sorry for myself" that be-
cause of his medical condi-
tion, he could no longer do-
nate blood to the Bnai Brith
Blood Bank, Karl Berg, past
president and BB chairman,
Marshall-Suburban Lodge,
wrote a poem on giving
blood . . . which will be pub-
lished in the Bnai Brith
Monthly national maga-
zine.
"Frequently, because of a
low pulse, I have had to run
around the room and kiss
and hug the nurses to in-
crease my pulse high
enough to be accepted as a
donor. At the 1975 Bnai
Brith convention in Israel, I
was proud to be able to give
a pint of blood when a PLO
terrorist attack required
emergency collection of
blood."
Next Bnai Brith Blood
Bank is this Monday and
Tuesday, 5 to 10 p.m. at
Eleanor Roosevelt Service
Center, Greenfield and 10
Mile, in back of Cook-Farr
Ford.
DR. BERNARD MAZA,
"Bergie," Southfield dental
doc, is reeking with jealousy
now that the weather is
turning cold . . . Brother
Jerry and wife Sandy moved
to Florida along with par-
ents Sam and Gert Maza.
RECENTLY RE-
TURNED from another
visit to Israel with the
Prime Ministers Club of Is-
rael Bonds in Chicago,
Judge Alice Gilbert talked
for a couple of hours on
mutual judicial matters in
what was originally to be a
10-minute meeting with
Moshe Landau, Israel Sup-
reme Court Justice.
BIRTHDAY CON-
GRATS . . . To Rickey
"Turk" Dee . . . (the
nickname is for same reason
it was given Herman
"Turk" Prujansky years ago
when they used to say,
"There goes Turk and his
harem.")
OF THREE MORE
community-ites that
finished the recent 26 mile
First Annual Free Press In-
ternational Marathon .. .
Mel Miller's cramped up
feelings were due to a lack of
potassium, says doctor
friend Al Stone, who was in
the New York marathon
same day . . . "You should
have eaten a banana," said
Al ... Jerry Kalman of Sen-
try Drugs, started running
seven months ago and
finished the 26 mile race in
less than four hours .. .
quite a feat . . . Merel Eps-
tein finished, but in pain .. .
Came home and virtually
collapsed . . . Ate too much
the night before at Car-
dinelli's on Mitchell and
Gratiot.
CAN'T BELIEVE Judge
Ira Kaufman has been on
the bench 25 years already
. . . Enjoys a wonderful

reputation . . . but still owes
us an emery board that
broke.
MAIL DEPT. . . . "In
reading your column in the
Oct. 20, 1978, issue of The
Jewish News, I noticed the
item about Tom Antoun,
owner of the Mobil gas sta-
tion on Greenfield and 11
Mile Road.
"It is nice to see recogni-
tion to someone who goes
out of his way and who be-
lieves in customer satisfac-
tion.
"Tom used to be one of the
chief mechanics at Falvey
Motors in Ferndale before
they closed and he had been
servicing my foreign car
since he opened his station.
I was unable to get it started
one morning, called him at
the station and described
the problem. He came out to
my home, diagnosed the
problem, sawed off a piece
from a broom handle,
shoved it in a hole in the
engine which enabled him
to start the car and get it
back to his station until he
could provide a replacement
for the defective part. The
charge was nominal.
"There isn't anything
Tom doesn't know about
Jaguars and he truly has
golden hands."
— Jerome B. Greenbaum
DISA 'n DATA . . . Al
Fill and the long ivory cigar
holder with filter attorney
Leonard Hyman had made
for him in China . . .
Thanks, Al, for the perfectly
round cigar . . . quite a
smoke . . . Hy Krupp look-
ing great . . . even better
than years ago when he
used to literally kick gals off
the running board of his car
. . . Beverly Shindel, oral
hygenist at Dr. Lawrence
Haber's office, hates being
called Mrs. Shindel ... even
by little children, who she
insists call her Beverly.

USSR Aliya Up,
Noshrim Increase

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Leon Dulzin, chairman of
the Jewish Agency and
World Zionist Organization
Executives, reported that
Jewish emigration from the
Soviet Union would top the
3,000 mark this month and
the upward trend is likely to
continue in the months
ahead. But "neshira" (drop-
ping out) — Jews who opt to
go to countries other than
Israel after arriving in Vie-
nna — was more than 66
percent in September and is
also expected to remain
high, he said.
