Youth Theater Book Fair Event I

On Nov. 12 and 19, at 10,
11 a.m., and 2 p.m., the
Jewish Community Center
of Metropolitan Detroit will
present as part of the 27th
Annual Jewish Book Fair
the children's theater com-
pany, Rainbow Celebration,
in their original play,
"Don't Give Up the Ship."
The Rainbow Celebration
performances last year were
all sell-outs.
The Rainbow Celebration
includes Hedy Blatt, Marcia
Fishman, Steven
Goldsmith and Susan
Leibovitz. "Don't Give Up
the Ship" relives the story of
Noah's Ark with the under-
lying theme of "when the
going gets rough and things
are tough, don't give up the
ship." The play is an origi-
nal musical in which the
young audience actively
participates. There is a
charge.
The Hebrew Depart-
ment of the Center will
sponsor Prof. Gershon
Shaked in a Hebrew lan-
guage lecture at 3:30 p.m.
Nov. 12.

Baker, author of "Days
of Sorrow and Pain," will
speak on "Yesterday,
Today and Tomorrow."
His book tells the story of
the man who became the
most prominent rabbi in
Berlin and the bulwark of
the Jewish community dur-
ing the desperate, de-
moralizing days of World
War II: Leo Baeck.

Theater Evening. There is a
charge. The cast includes
Chayele Ash, Abraham
Fuhrman, Barbara Moskow
and Edith Kesilman.
Chayele Ash was born
to theater parents who
were performers in the
Yiddish theatre in Bes-
sarabia and at age 6 she
was already appearing in
children's roles. In 1948,

College in Cincinnati. He is
the author of "New Waves of
Hebrew Literature," deal-
ing with the Diaspora as

settled in Philadelphia
where she has since ap-
peared with her theater
group. .
As a young boy, Abraham
Fuhrman was a member of
Jewish dramatic groups in
the USSR. He sang at music
festivals and on local radio.
After the war, he was active
in the Jewish theater in the
DP camps in Austria. In
1951 he came to America.
Ari Fuhrman's musical
studies were interrupted by
World War II. He was in
ghettos and concentration
camps where he began his
career. After the war he set-
