Council Extends
UNEF Mandate
UNITED NATIONS
(JTA) — The Security
Council voted Monday
night, 12-0, to extend the
mandate of the United Na-
tions Emergency Force
(UNEF) in the Sinai for an-
other nine months. Two
members of the 15-member
council — the Soviet Union
and Czechoslovakia —
abstained. China did not
participate in the vote.
The Soviets objected to a
12-month extension be-
cause of their opposition to
the Camp David agree-
ments. They do not want
UN troops to be deployed
along the new lines that will
be drawn when the Israeli
withdrawal from Sinai be-
gins. under the accords
reached between Israel and
Egypt at Camp David, the
sources said.
Such a redeployment
would be automatic as long
as the new mandate is in ef-
fect, thereby giving further
UN weight to the Camp
David agreements.
The Soviets apparently
prefered to have the new
UNEF mandate expire be-
fore the redeployment,
thereby requiring Israel
and Egypt to apply for an-
other extension, the sources
explained. . . .

tions that surround each oc-
casion, as well as the inno-
vative, new ways in which
people are celebrating and
entertaining. Most impor-
tant, she tells how to give to
a party a Jewish feeling and
imbue it with Jewish mean-
ing. She stresses fresh and
contemporary ways in
which we can lend tradi-
tional occasions a modern
quality.
Her suggestions range
from things to do for an in-
dividual, means to celebrate
within the family, to occa-
sions that can be shared by
the community.
Mae Shafter Rockland
is the author of "The
Work of Our Hands:
Jewish Needlecraft for
Today," "The Hanukkah
Book," and "The Jewish
Yellow Pages: A Direc-
tory of Goods and Serv-
ices."
One of the thousands of
books which will be dis-
played. at Book Fair will be
"Nobody Knows My Name
— A Hanuka Tale to Color"
written and illustrated by
Detroiter Marilyn Rowens.
Ms. Rowens writes a story
about a fictitious third
cousin of Judah Maccabee,
and each page of text has a
facing page to be colored or
painted by the reader.
