Unit Restores Aid to Syria

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
A committee of both houses
of Congress acted last week
to restore $90 million in
U.S. economic aid to Syria
that had been deleted ear-
lier by the House of Repre-
sentatives from the foreign
aid bill. The Senate had
voted the full amount for
the new fiscal year begin-
ning Oct. 1.
' The committee restored
funds reportedly in re-
Ise to heavy pressure

from the Carter Adminis-
tration despite Syria's oppo-
sition to the Camp David
agreements.

The full foreign aid bill,
amounting to $9.1 billion
will go back to both
chambers for routine ap-
proval before being sent to
the President for signature.
The House had objected to
the aid for Syria because of
its warfare against the
Christians in Lebanon.

Technion to Establish Ford Chair in Transportation

Henry Ford II will be
honored by the Technion,
the Israel Institute of
Technology in Haifa, Israel,
with a professorial chair. It
is the first time that a chair
will be named for a non-Jew
by the university.
Evelyn de Rothschild, in-
ternational chairman of the
Technion board of gover-
nors and noted British
Jewish leader, made this
announcement at a dinner

Bob Hunter,
Community Relations Manager,
Southfield, reminds you:

DeRothschild stated that
the honor is being accorded
the auto magnate in recog-
nition of his many years of
interest in the Technion, his
opposition to the Arab
boycott and his support of
Israel.
Emphasizing the need
to put the Israel economy
in order, he urged in-
creased efforts for Dias-
pora Jewry's, especially
American Jewry's, par-
ticipation in tasks to in-
crease Israel's industrial
expansion. He em-
phasized the importance
of Technion as a major

We have a wide range of services that can help the physically impaired to
communicate by telephone. For people with difficulties in hearing or
speech, there are amplifying devices. For example: A telephone handset
that allows adjustment of volume for hearing and another that permits
amplification of speech.
As an aid forthose with speech loss, Michigan Bell has an artificial larynx.
And people with motion impairments should - know about services such as
easy-to-use card dialers, speakerphones, telephone headsets, and-
School-to-Home telephone service for students unable to attend class.
If you think any of these services might
help you or someone in your family to
communicate more easily, just call your local
Michigan Bell Business Office.
