30th anniversary celebra-
tions, a special program has
been devised by the Minis-
try of Commerce, Industry
and Tourism that will up-
date the age-old custom and
adjust it to the methods of
the jet age.
This program is divided
into two parts; the official
ceremonies and a unique
three-day stay in Israeli
homes.
The official program is
scheduled for Oct. 17-19 -and
is highlighted by the
Jerusalem march. This an-
nual event is a strenuous
hike through the Judean
hills, in which all sectors of
Israeli society participate;
young school children, office
workers, factory laborers,
soldiers and senior citizens.
It concludes with a parade
through the streets of
Jerusalem watched by
throngs lining the pave-
ments.

series oflectures and classes
on Sephardic Jewry will be
featured at a "Sephardic
House" planned by the
Spanish and Portuguese
Synagogue of New York,
which was described as the
only current effort in New
York City to enhance public
awareness of Sephardic cul-
ture.
