Midrasha Classes Begin Monday

The Midrasha, College of
Jewish Studies, will begin
its fall semester on Monday.
Thirty-eight courses are of-
fered in Hebrew language
and literature, Yiddish, Bi-
blical and Post-Biblical Lit-
erature, and Jewish Philos-
ophy. Most of the courses
will meet at the United He-
brew Schools Building.
A new arrangement has
been made with the Young
Israel congregations
whereby Rabbis Zev Schos-
tak, James I. Gordon, Feival
Wagner, and Shaul Broner
will offer Midrasha courses
for credit at the Young Is-
raels of Oak-Woods, Green-
field and Southfield.
A special daytime Yid-
dish course, taught by Mor-

ris Nobel and sponsored by a
private donor, has been set
up at Borman Hall.

A joint program with
Cong. Shaarey Ze-clek for
upper grade students has
also been arranged.
Three courses for six
hours of credit will be of-
fered: "Origins of Rab-
binic Judaism: Jewish
Life in the Greco-
Roman World," "Origins
of the Jewish People: An
Introduction to Biblical
Archeology" and "In-
termediate and Ad-
vanced Hebrew Conver-
sation."

ternoons. There is a charge
for lunch.

Harry L. Silverman is fly-
ing high — in both senses of
the word, as he fulfilled a
lifelong dream of becoming
a pilot.
Silverman, who has long
been active in the general
and Jewish communities,
particularly in efforts on
behalf of the Allied Jewish
Campaign, earned his
pilot's license last month
against great odds.
A certified public ac-
countant, Silverman traces
his interest in flying and
outer space to childhood
when he read constantly
about flying and built model
planes.
He took his first plane
flight, as a passenger, in
1957 and was frightened
at the experience. He de-
cided that he would like
to learn to fly to over-
come that fear. Another
flight 10 years later con-
vinced him that by taking
flying lessons he would
overcome his fear.
Silverman attended
ground school in 1971, but
when his wife became ill he
suspended his training. He
