J. Horowitz, the outgo- ing president, declared that the theme of the conference had been dramatized by the fact that five members of the executive of the Zionist Federation had gone on aliya during the past two years. He reported that the Federation's senior trea- surer, Morris Borsuk, and his family also were plan- ning to settle in Israel soon after "a lifetime of service to the Zionist cause." He said the Zionist movement in South Africa had made tremendous strides over the decades and that it had contributed in- numerable resources towards a Zionist ideology, consciousness and organ- ization. Horowitz was given a standing ovation, as was the new president, Julius Weinstein. Dr. I. D. Unna, Israel's Ambassador, discussed the "precarious position" of both South Africa and Israel and how Israel and the South African Jewish .com- munity could strengthen each other. Baez Entertains Israeli Audience JERUSALEM (JTA) — American folk singer Joan Baez enthralled her audi- ence in the first of two per- formances at the Jerusalem Convention Center last week. But her appearance was not without con- troversy generated by her alleged pro-Arab bias and her refusal last month to perform at Neviot in Israel-occupied Sinai. A bomb threat at the con- vention hall proved false. But outside, members of the "Kach" movement carried placards demanding "Joan Go Home" and "Eretz Yis- rael Belongs to the Jews." But.Ms. Baez quickly estab- lished rapport with her audience, composed mainly of Israelis and American visitors. A Good Student 0, THE NATILIRAI NT PRETTY BRA, FLOWER BALI.
