The award,. for excellence in Jewish journalism, is named after Boris Smolar, editor-in-chief emeritus of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. forces in molding the Jewish future, and the CJF's function as the collec- tive instrument of the fed- erations. Among the major items the CJF discussed at their meetings was plan- ning the 1979 community campaigns built around the theme "Jewish Re- newal — At Home and Abroad." Discussions have been held in many communities during the summer months on plans for the general campaign as well as for the special "Project Renewal" pro- gram of neighborhood revitalization and re- habilitation in Israel. Sukkot Election Angers Priest TORONTO (JTA) — An Anglican priest has with- drawn as the Liberal Party's candidate for Parli- ament in a by-election in the Eglinton Riding (dis- trict) because the election date, Oct. 16, falls on Suk- kot. Roland Decorneille, executive director of the League for Human Rights of the Canadian Bnai Brith District 22, said he could not run in good conscience on a date that would effectively disfranchise some 30,000 Jewish voters.
