The group will honor its immediate past-president, Doris V. Markel, "for her tenure as president for the past 10 consecutive years, for her dedication to the highest musical standards, com- mitment to the expansion of scholarship achievements, enhancement of cultural growth of membership and ORDER NOW I 979 OLDS community and for distin- guished service to the Music Study Club." Mrs. Markel studied both piano and voice extensively. She was active in the De- troit -Opera Guild for sev- eral years, appearing in leading roles. She competed in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions of the Air where she went to the semi-finals, and has appeared in many operas. She was on the staff of the Jewish Family and Chil- dren's Service for 40 years. She organized a choral group comprised of people from age 16 to 60 with seri- ous problems to act as a kind of therapy. The refusal followed authorized permission on the part of an Egyptian tourist agency for an or- ganized tour from Israel of Egypt. Only persons who are not residents of Israel will be allowed to partici- pate in the 10-day tour. A spokesman for the Interior Ministry explained that the refusal resulted from the absence of an offi- cial request from the Egyp- tian Interior Ministry to permit the tour.
