edictorian of both high
school and Hebrew col-
lege graduating classes.
While a student at New
York's Columbia College,
from which he was later
graduated, Rabbi Spectre
taught Hebrew and wrote
dramatic plays.
At the seminary, he was
twice awarded the Homile-
tics Prize and Senior Prize
for Medieval Hebrew litera-
ture.
Rabbi Spectre is known
for his active work on behalf
of Israel and Jewish causes.
During the Six-Day
War, Rabbi Spectre was
sent to Israel to coordi-
nate the war program for
Philadelphia volunteers.
During the Yom Kippur
War he again returned to
