Active in Jewish Causes
Meyer Weingarden, a
general contractor for 65
years and an active member
of Jewish movements, died
Sept. 11 at age 82.
Born in Russia, Mr.
Weingarden lived 68 years
. in the U.S. He.was treasurer
of Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah, past president of
Cong. Bnai Zion, 'which he
founded in his basement in
1925; and was president of
ng. K'hal Charaidim.

Abe Cherrin, co-founder,
co-owner and president of
the Cherrin Corp. in Dear-
born, died Sept. 7 at age 67.
Born in London, Ontario,
Mr. Cherrin founded his
plastic extrusions and
manufacturing company in
1943. He retired and sold
the company in 1977.
Mr. Cherrin was a
member of Adat Shalom
Synagogue, Young Israel of
Greenfield, Oakland Cen-
tury Lodge of Bnai Brith,
Men's ORT, the City of Hope
and Hillel Day School. He
resided at 17600 New
Hampshire, Southfield.
He leaves his wife, Anne;
a son, Mervin of Oakland,
Calif.; a brother, Lem; two
sisters, Mrs. Jack (Helen)
Foreman and Mrs. Joseph
(Mayme) Kohn of Miami,
Fla.

A native of Poland, Mrs.
Shulman was a member of
Cong. Bnai David and its
sisterhood; Cong. Beth
Shalom Sisterhood; Club
Two, Pioneer Women;
Turover Aid Society,
Mother's Club of the Jewish
Community Center and the
Sinai Hospital Guild.
He leaves two daughters,
Mrs. Benjamin (Blanche)
Brant and Mrs. David
(Matilda) Frederick; three
sisters, Mrs. Harry ( Anne)
Green, Mrs. Morris (Freda)
Fox and Mrs. Sam (Sarah)
Chudler of California; five
grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
Benjamin Sonnenberg, a
Russian immigrant who be-
came a legendary New York
press agent and a friend of
the rich and famous, is dead
at 77.

grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.

taught in Israel and was•
spiritual leader of the
Chemed synagogue.
He leaves his wife,
Rachel; a son, Lawrence of
Israel; two daughters, Mrs.
Joel (Sylvia) Lerner of
Jerusalem and Mrs.
Michael (Beverly) Rich of
Philadelphia; two brothers,
Rabbi Eugene of Ramat-
Gan, Israel, and Rabbi Er-
nest of Oak Park; two sis-
ters, Mrs. Milton (Phyllis)
Jurkowitz of New York and
Mrs. Murray (Ella) Bara of
Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and 16
grandchildren. Interment
Israel.
Max - Hoffman
Max Hoffman, formerly
affiliated with New York
Carpet World, died Sept. 8
at age 69.
Born in Russia, Mr.
Hoffman lived for the past
six years in Lansing. While
in Detroit he was a member
of Pisgah Lodge of Bnai
Brith and Congs. Bnai
David and Shaarey Zedek.
He leaves two sons,
Lawrence and Aaron, both
of East Lansing; a daughter,
Mrs. Clarence (Josephine)
Zucker of Lansing; two
brothers, Louis and Harry
of Hallandale, Fla.; and 10
grandchildren. Interment
Detroit.

Jack Warner
HOLLYWOOD — Jack
Warner, one of 12 children
of Polish Jewish immig-
rants, who became head of a
multi-million dollar motion
picture empire, died Sept. 9
at age 86.
Mr. Warner joined his
brothers, Harry, Albert and
Sam, in the film business in
1903, later formed Warner
Bros., which came to be one
of the major Hollywood
production and distribution
companies.
Mr. Warner received Hol-
lywood's highest award, the
Irving G. Thalberg Memo-
rial Award in 1959.

gation (1934-1942), died
Sept. 7 in Israel. He was 70.
Born in Hungary, Rabbi
Greenfield lived 20 years in
Detroit and made his home
in Israel for the past eight
years. In Detroit he was a
founder of the Hebrew Free
Loan Association.
