Stern has been named the first Dis- tinguished Service Profes- sor at Wayne State Univer- sity "for his work as assis- tant to the U.S. President in the development and formu- lation of national domestic policy." The entertainers are hus- band and wife, Stella Richmond and Tibor Her- dan. The two are leading concert-opera stars in Is- rael. Miss. Married in Detroit in 1918, the couple has a daughter, Bernice Mendel- son; two grandchildren and a great-grandson. Smith headed the book- keeping department for Wayne County for 38 years. He is affiliated with the Ma- sons, Oddfellows and in a member of Adat Shalom Synagogue. Mrs. Smith has been a volunteer for charities be- nefiting orphaned children.
