West Bank and the Gaza
Strip because they express
"annexationist aims and
the rejectionist policy" of
the government. Their
statement was made in a
letter to Premier Menahem
Begin.
Calling the Israeli gov-
ernment's policy "mis-
guided, erroneous and
fraudulent," the signatories
— who include 10 officers—
said that the policy is based
on "mysticism and leading
to the domination of an-
other people, contradicts
the security needs of the
state, thwarts peace efforts
and endangers the Zionist
endeavor."
The letter brought forth
strong reactions almost
immediately. The prime
minister's office issued a
statement noting that the
reservists' political motives
were obvious seeing as they
had released the letter to
the press before the premier
had a chance to read it.
It also pointed to the
fact that the reservists
were accompanied by
personnel from Israel
television when they
went to the Begin resi-
dence to deliver the let-
ter. The statement also
expressed wonder that
the reservists had chosen
the eve of the Camp
David summit to deliver
their letter.
The Peace Now move-
ment also strongly con-
demned the letter, and em-

phasized that it had no con-
nection with the 100 reserve
soldiers.
The action was de-
nounced by Labor Align-
ment leader Shimon Peres,
who said that politics
should not be involved in
the army. He said any order, •
unless inhumane, should be
obeyed.
There was a large ad-
vertisement in all the
newspapers demanding
that the reservists be
courtmartialed. It was

Criticism has also been
leveled at the television
news department for giving
prominent display to the
letter by the reservists and
the fact that the TV report-
ers crews had been tipped
off that the group was going
to present its letter at Be-
gin's residence and were on
hand to record it. The
broadcasting authority
chief has asked for an inves-
tigation.

Terrorist Hiding
in Negev Desert?
Men's and Boys'
signed by "Chaim Peled,
citizen."
Loachim Klein, a member of
the West German Baader-
Meinhoff gang and aide to
the notorious terrorist
known as "Carlos," was re-
ported by a French news-
paper as hiding in an Israeli
kibutz in the Negev.
According to the morning
daily L'Aurore, the Israeli
secret police agreed to hide
him in exchange for infor-
mation he had given them
on West German and Arab
terrorist groups.
The paper claimed that
Klein told Israeli secret
police that since his mother
is Jewish he was entitled to
asylum in Israel under the
Law of Return. Israeli
sources in Paris stressed
they had no knowledge of
Klein's whereabouts.
(In Jerusalem, the Minis-
try of Interior and police of-
ficials termed the news-
paper story a hoax.)
