WHY WOULD A practic-
ing clinical psychologist
. . . and former major net-
work correspondent . .
want to go into the restaur-
ant business? . . . Dr.
Sonya Freedman, owner of
P.J. Clark's, on South
Woodward, in the Conti-
nental Market, has a some-
what logical answer . . . "I
feed a person's mind, why
not their stomachs?"
Sonya's operation is a
good one . . . directly on the
corner across from the Bir-
mingham Theater . . . open
only a couple of months and
seating just 65.
Everybody there is so
gracious . . . the food so
fresh . . the place oozing
with pleasantness . . . Its
intimate atmosphere is a
quiet one, cute, with dark
wooden beams and hanging
palms.
Sonya has a manager,
Jim Van Horn . . . and
she is there everyday,
wearing a charming per-
sonality that does much
for her restaurant's pub-
lic relations image . . .
loving to be among
people and kibitzing with
them.
Our lunch was an enjoy-
able one . . . from the mo-
ment pretty hostess, Kathy
Scott greeted us . . . to our
sweet, efficient waitress,
Honor Lavean, saying,
"Welcome to P.J. Clarke's"
. . . to a delicious omlette
aux herbs, with cheese,
mushrooms and onions . .
A rarity is the three types of
sugar offered . . . regular,
substitute and unrefined
natural.
No, P.J. Clarke's is not a
chain . . . There is such a
restaurant in New York,
whose ambience Sonya en-
joyed so much . . . It is the
original owner's name there
. . . and Sonia has taken

the title because of the
goodness it stands for.
Sonya was recently on
ABC-TV network stalwart
. . . and is now hostess of
her own show, "Detroit" on
Saturday evenings at 7 p.m.
. . . She is also writing a
book.
P.J. Clarke's serves
lunch, dinner,

Like a well-kept plant, it

NO TRUTH to the rumor

"DO YOU WANT
HASH browns or French
fries?" a waitress asked us
at a deli in Oak Park . . .
and we told her which . .
She came with neither and
when we asked where the
potatoes were, her snippy
reply was, "If you don't
order any, you don't get
any."

THE ATTIC THEA-
TER Auxiliary is currently
having its first fund-raising
effort . . . "Get The Best
Seat In Town" . . . seeking
funds to buy seats for the
Attic Theater, in Greek-
town, Which will soon be
moving to a new location
. . . Presently being used
are a collection of assorted
hand-me-down bridge
chairs, desk chairs and
kitchen chairs . . . all bor-
rowed . . . which the au-
xiliary hopes to replace with
comfortable matched seat-
ing.
A $15 donation will buy
one chair . . . and if de-
sired, the donor's name will
be engraved on a plate at-
tached to the seat . . . Ethel
Levine, 544-8836, is presi-
dent of the Attic Theater
Auxiliary . . . or call Jay
Frye, 271-1550, for more
info.
FOLKS ARE SAYING
very fine words about the
chicken being gotten from
Adam's Rib .. . Seems that
owner Bill Kim is a success-
ful chicken gent at an east
side eatery . . . and quite
adept at this carry-out . . .
We like the crispness with
which Bill makes his fresh
chicken.
MET-
FINALLY,

another chance to support
something wonderful in the
way of entertainment . . .
