customers ... This is espe-
cially true of waiters and
waitresses, upon whose
knowledgeable ways, the
size of their tips are control-
led.
THE DUKES OF Dixie-
land will perform an even-
ing of New Orleans jazz at
the Birmingham Theater,
Aug. 20 ... followed a Sun-
day later, Aug. 27, by the
Ragtime Years when Max'
Morath sits down at the
keyboard.
"Bubbling Brown Sugar,"
the hit musical revue that
features the music of Duke
Ellington, Billie Holiday
and Cab Calloway, opens
Aug. 29 thru Sept. 2.
WHO SAID IT couldn't
be done? ... Can't believe
the new menu at Cordoba's,
W. Seven Mile just west of
Middlebelt ... Full dinners
all day, all week, from Mon-
day through Sunday are
$4.95, including steak, sea-
food, prime rib, shrimp, etc.
... eight items in all . . .
with lobster tail $6.95 ...
All cocktails from 3 to 7 p.m.
are two for one price . . . and
sandwiches are now served
all hours . . . It's owner
Mary Zawideh's "Roll Back
To Prices of 1972" as his
answer to "What inflation?"
JOHN AMORE SHOW,
with John on the dynamic
vocals, is appearing one
more week at Ramada Inn
of Southfield on Telegraph
... Following him will be
another terrific act . . . the
Jason Steele Show.
GREEK CUISINE
is fare at Flying Saucer,
Woodward, South of 14 Mile
on west side of street ..
Seats 60 people in an out-
door garden setting . . .
Highest price for dinner or
lunch is $3.75 ... plus 13
different sandwiches all on
pita bread . . . Doing the
cooking is Christos Schizos,
eight years here from
Greece, who helped open
Yassoo across the street.
LOCAL GUITARIST
recording artist, Dale
Hicks, is in the H' Penny
Lounge at Win Schuler's
The Grate Steak in West
Bloomfield through Sept. 2
. entertaining with top 40
hits and old favorites.
IT'S GOOD ONLY
through month of August,
but you can get a pound live
lobster dinner for only $8.95
at the Sea Shell, John R just
north of 15 Mile in Troy.
THOSE WHO GO to the
new Darbys Deli on Pontiac
Trail, just south of 15 Mile,
and compare it with the
former one on Seven and
Wyoming are being unfair
. The other was at a time
when food prices were
within reason and service
was both king and queen...
Now each has gotten pretty
ridiculous ... Good help is
hard to fad and food prices
to restaurateurs have
skyrocketed even beyond
inflationary costs.
George Fink, manager at
Darbys, watches the food as
it comes out of the kitchen,
just like Sam Boesky used to
do . . . The roast beef
Korean—Mandarin
Japanese Steak House
sandwich we had there re-
cently was with a delicious
gravy made by George him-
self.
The Darbys pastries are
as they should be with such
a great name . ... magnifi-
cent . . . You won't taste bet-
ter banana bread of
Hawaiian nut bread (both
are really cakes) anywhere
. don't fail to have a piece
or two . . . and the rice pud-
ding or bread pudding, also
... All the pastries are
made on the Darbys pre-
mises.
Carrie Beal, waitress at
Darbys, is very efficient,
on-the-ball, and presents a
gracious personality.
The hamburger and liver
are bought from Braverman
kosher meats ... and the de-
licatessen is Kosher Zion.
VISITED THE walk-in
refrigerator at Be My
Guest, W. 9 Mile just west of
Middlebelt, and saw all the
fresh chopped ingredients
used in making their square
pizza ... Brought to mind
some years back when we
made a round pizza in the
kitchen of an Italian re-
staurant to have a better
view when writing about it
. . . Seems that then the
stuff was all prepared long
ahead of time . . . put in con-
tainers to throw on the pizza
. Don't know how long
they had been standing out
. The sauce at that old re-
staurant ... was on W. 8
Mile, either named Capri or
another after it . . . came
from a can ... At Be My
Guest, they make their own
sauce for the pizza (square
only) and own salad dres-
sings.
