Totie Fields Dies, Noted Comedienne

LAW VEGAS, Nev. —
Totie Fields, the com-
edienne who was voted en-
tertainer of the year by her
colleagues in January, died
Wednesday at age 48 after
suffering a heart attack.
Born Sophie Feldman in
Hartford, Conn., Miss

Abraham Sharp, retired
Detroit food merchant,
whose home for the past few
years was in Miami Beach,
Fla., died last Friday at age
84. Funeral services were
held Sunday in Miami
Beach.
Mr. Sharp headed the Na-
tional Wholesale Grocery
on 12th Street in Detroit for
more than 25 years. He was
the first distributor of Man-
ishewitz matzo, Passover
food and wine products
here. He also was the first
distributor in Michigan of
Israeli wine.
Surviving are his wife,
Lucille; and two sons.

Fields was a popular per-
former on television and the
glittering Las Vegas Strip.
She had made a comeback
after a leg amputation, two
heart attacks and a mastec-
tomy.
In her act she used to-
make jokes about being fat,
when at four feet 10 inches
she weighed 190 pounds.
Later, as she was smitten by
the other ailments, she
would make light of them.
