Religious School
for Special Kids
at Temple Beth El

Under the auspices of
Temple Beth El Prentis Re-
ligious School, a program of
religious education for chil-
dren with learning dis-
abilities will be offered for
the third consecutive year.
The classes will meet
9:30-11:45 a.m. Saturdays
at Temple Beth El and are
open to all Jewish children.
Temple membership is not
required. There is a fee.
There are two classes
divided according to age
groups, starting at six
years. The program in-
cludes Bible and holiday
stories with creative
dramatics, Hebrew,
Jewish music and dance,
Shabat services and
cooking activities.
A feature of this program
is the correlated Chaverim
("friends") program. This is
composed of selected
seventh and eighth grade
students from the regular
religious school who are act-
ing as helpers for the special
children.

JNF Issues Its
Tisha b'Av Appeal

The Council of Orthodox
Rabbis of Greater Detroit
has formed a special kas-
hrut committee and has is-
sued a statement warning
the community that kosher
consumers should patronize
"only those carry-out ser-
vices that bear endorsement
from the organized rabbi-
nate."
The committee stated
that the Council of Or-
thodox Rabbis does not
maintain supervision of
kashrut "at any supermar-
ket or delicatessen in our
community."

Michael S. Friedman has
announced his candidacy
for one of the three newly
created seats on the Oak-
land County Circuit Court.
A 1962 graduate of the
University of Michigan,
Friedman was graduated
with honors from Wayne
State University Law
School in 1965, where he
served as a member of the
editorial board of the
Wayne Law Review.
A former Oakland
County Assistant Pro-
secutor, Friedman has been
a trial attorney for the past
12 years handling a variety
of criminal and civil mat-
ters. He is a member of the
bar of the Supremo Court of
.the United States, and be-
longs to a number of profes-
sional and community or-
ganizations.
