iThe Best of Everything

A FINE EATING place
is like a safe ... only the
right combination will open
its doors to more people.
And it is possible to offer
gourmet dining without.
outlandish, unreasonable
prices.
Jimmy's, at Holiday Inn
of Farmington, Grand River
and 10 Mile Rd., proves both
of these to be true ... and
then some ... For instance,
oversized portions of top
grade dishes . . . like 20 oz.
prime rib and 16 oz. sirloin
steak.
It is one of the prettiest
rooms around, seating
about 240 with tables, pri-
vate booths separated by
heavy stained-glass divid-
ers, darkwood interior,
palms, two dance floors, soft
recessed lighting from
low-hanging lamps.
The employees are
trained to peak efficiency
from bus boys like Dan
Fulcher, a senior at Novi
High, to excellent host
Greg Toomey, who con-
tinually goes from table
to table asking if every-
thing is all right, to Chef
Bill Wamby, who makes
food hum with delicious-
ness, to waitresses like
Kathy Brodeur, sweet,
pretty and with a smile
that compliments her
very efficient, extremely
courteous ways.
The huge prime rib that
came to Frieda was so big
that much of it had to be
taken home in a People's
Bag ... We tasted it and
wondered how a piece of
meat so large could taste so
tender and good ... Before
this, she had ordered her
favorite appetizer, escar-
gots ... and immediately
we could see the evening
was to be a very pleasant
dining experience ..
Rather than being shoved
into the shells used over and
over, the escargots are
cooked in a pottery of six in-
serts filled with garlic but-
ter, and then served as is.
We never saw a shrimp
cocktail served like the one
Kathy brought its ... six
firm jumbos on a bed of cold
lettuce atop ice cubes.
You must try the spinach
soup there ... even if you
don't like spinach ... It was
without a doubt the best we
have tasted .. . so thick,
full-bodied and elegantly
taste-thrilling.
After a big, beautiful
salad came the piece d'
resistance ... a great
looking Idaho rainbow
trout cooked to a savory
elegance that made it
even better than one we
. had at a French restaur-
ant in New York ,and
never thought could ever
be matched.
The large piece of succu-
lent rainbow trout was
brought with amondine on
the side ... sauce of butter
and oodles of almonds.
There was nary a single
bone to be found and we
masticated that trout with
taste buds of happiness.
Kathy had brought us a
choice bottle oT Pouilly-

Fuisse white wine to go with
this ultra fine dinner ...
and capped by a good cigar,
it was a most memorable
dining adventure.
Jimmy's in the Holiday
Inn of Farmington has only
been serving food about a
month ... generally man-
aged by Phil Rongo and
owned by Jimmy Hamilton
. but already the
deliciously-prepared huge
portions (even the baked
potato is twice normal size)
and excellent presentation
in a relaxed dining atmos-
phere is gaining it much
noteworthy acclaim.
There's a lounge, also, at
Jimmy's . . . This was Tues-
day evening and it was
packed full .. The dining
room itself when we left
about 10 p.m. was still
three-quarters full.

candlelight dining at Jim-
my's ... it's a very pleasant
occasion.
HENRY MALTER of
Malter Furs had a new ex-
perience in the Highland
Room of Stouffer's North-
land a couple of weeks ago
. . . After taking his wife He-
len's and his order, the very
"efficient" waitress waited
45 minutes to inform them
that they were all out of the
flounder which had been or-
dered ... She suggested
that they order something
else, but when the Malters
instead asked for their
drink check, afraid that the
kitchen would be closed be-
fore receiving substitute
dinners, they were accused
by Yvonne, their waitress,
of being "rude."
HOWARD LUCAS,
playing a dual role between
the Caucus Club and Lon-
don Chop House, presents a
versatile handling of the
keyboard in varied styles.
From 7 to 9, he does his
