THE DETROIT JEWISH MEWS

Handicrafts Event
Due in Rochester

Danny Raskin's

LISTENING
POST

QUICK THINKING OF
Earl Walls, manager of Jax
Kar Wash on Greenfield
and Eight Mile, has a cus-
tomer moving his fingers
again ... The fellow had
opened the hood of his car to
fix something ... wife or
girl friend started it by mis-
take and he yelled, "Ouch,
my fingers!" ... jumped in
the car and they drove away
. Meanwhile, Earl found
two well-manicured finger
tips on the drive ... put
them in a refrigerator .. .
and called all hospitals
around ... Finally, Provi-
dence said a man was
brought in with two finger
tips missing from the
knuckle down ... Woman
came by to thank Earl .. .
and tell him that they had
successfully been sewed on
. Needless to say, the fel-
low won't let anybody else
wash his car, now.
WHILE VISITING
daughter Carol and son-in-
law Steven Hoptman (Iva
and Charlie's son) outside of
San Francisco, Rose
Guttman of Irving's Deli
put her sweater on a chair
and was quickly re-
primanded by 21/2-year-old
grandson, Aron, "Grandma,
we hang up our clothes
here!" ... When the family
cat came in from outside,.
little Aron remarked,
"Mommy, Gray came in and
didn't wipe his feet. You
spank me for doing it. Why
don't you spank him?"
ERRATA ... Correct
spelling of Quality Kosher
Caterers owners are
Elizabeth Mauthner and
son Paul Kohn.
KAY SAPERSTEIN has
a double celebration ...
being made chairperson of
the gift carts at Sinai Hospi-
tal . . . plus the Aug. 20
marriage of hers and barris-
ter Jimmy's granddaughter
Sherry Cherney, daughter
of Gerry and Allen, to Mar-
vin Kauffman, son of Roz
and Seymour.
Kay has been a Sinai vol-
unteer nine years, and
takes over the gift cart posi-
tion from former chairper-
son Adele Gaines.
GET WELL WISHES
... to Bessie Radner.
BEST PART ABOUT
Bernadine Stein being an
interior decorator is that
the home of hers and Mort's
is a striking example of the
work she can do ... Loca-
tion of her Stewart Custom
Designs is on 10 Mile, and
just walking steps away
from their Southfield living
quarters of plush carpeted
walls and ceiling, tastefully
placed pictures, floral dis-
plays and so many admira-
ble features that include a
true Japanese room into
which guests enter only
after removing their shoes
... While relaxing on the
soft chairs that pull up from
pillows, an excellent stereo
system fills the room with
every type of music imagin-
.

WANT A SKIMPY SANDWICH?

able from Mort's great col-
lection.
CONGRATS TO . . .
Shirley and Dennis Kow-
alski . . . The two-week
overdue wait was worth it
with 10 lbs., 2 oz. of little
Nicholas Adam.
NAT COLEMAN,
health club director at
Southfield Athletic Club,
will have a hot time, Sept.
13, and it won't be in the
steam room there . . .
They'll be roasting Nat at a
Stag Night Dinner in his
honor ... Tickets are being
carried by Earl Ruby, Saul
Nusbaum and Harry Nel-
son.
AUG. 9 IS ANOTHER
"Nite At The Races" by Per-
fection Lodge . . . post time 8
p.m. at Hazel Park ... with
a buffet dinner ... Reserva-
tions are a must ... Call
Worshipful Master Mark
Silverstein, 557-5724.
ANNUAL CARNIVAL
for Muscular Dystrophy is
set by the Bedford area
neighbors ... Aug. 12, 12
noon to 6 p.m. ... at 29709
Brentwood, Southfield ...
There'll be a dunk tank do-
nated by the Berkley
Jaycee's, a 1970 Cadillac to
smash down for dystrophy,
a house of horrors and trac-
tor rides.
Last year's proceeds were
over $5,000, and this year
the hope is for much more,
with prizes including a de-
luxe weekend in Montreal.
COLLECTORS OF
comic books are looking to-
ward the new Hero's World
in Applegate Square
(Northwestern and Inkster)
. . . with some of the original
pages for sale from 29 cents
to $800... Bosslady Bunny
Lieberman's place is pat-
terned after all the super
heros of fiction lore ... with
toys, clothes, etc. ... The
very novel idea has taken
off with the bang of a 10-
cannon salute.
SUFFICIENT RE-
SULTS have warranted the
having of a Class of
January, 1934 Northern
High Reunion ... Included
also will be those from 1932
and 1935... Date is Oct. 8,
at Botsford Inn ... If you
want to attend contact Wil-
son Tyler at home, 349-
0569, or at the offices of De-
troit Bank & Trust, 222-
3670.
