Communal Leader Samuel Frankel
Celebrating His 65th Birthday Monday

Samuel Frankel, a driv-
ing force in Detroit's Jewish
communal life — from the
chairmanship of the Allied
Jewish Campaign to the
vice presidency of the
Jewish Welfare Federation
— will observe his 65th
birthday on Monday.
A Detroit area resident
since early childhood,
Frankel has devoted him-
self to his city, his country
and to Israel. His benefi-
cence, whether he is giving
of his time or financial as-
sistance, has touched many
people at home and abroad.
A former president of the
Jewish Community Center,
Frankel was instrumental
in the building campaign
for the new site in West
Bloomfield, and its pre-
decessor at Meyers and Cur-
tis.
He hosted the initial
fund-raising meeting for
the Maple and Drake lo-
cation and was chairman
of the building committee
during construction of
the Northwest Detroit
facility. The Samuel and
Jean Frankel Wing in the
new Center houses the
administrative offices.
He has traveled to Israel

chairman in 1973 with Paul
M. Handleman. He has held
nearly all major positions in
the annual fund-raising
drive. Among his campaign

William Berkowitz, presi-

Fund of America, welcomed
Moshe Rivlin, world chair-
man of the Keren
Kayemet LeIsi•ael, upon
his arrival last week from
Israel to the U.S.
Rabbi Berkowitz said,
"Mr. Rivl in's visit to the Un-
ited States comes at a very
crucial hour. The Jewish
people today face difficult
days and many crises

demand closer, stronger ties
between all segments of
Jewry."
Rivlin will visit San
Francisco, Seattle, Port-
land, Los Angeles, San
Diego, Denver, St. Louis,
Minneapolis and Baltimore
for a series of discussions
with prominent friends and
supporters of the Jewish
National Fund in each city.
During his three-week tour,
he will review the plans for
the construction of the
Hubert H. Humphrey
Parkway in the American
Bicentennial Park.
