Mr. Carpenter was active in the Detroit chapters of the American Friends of the Weizmann Institute and the American Friends of Heb- rew University, and was a past board member of Tem- ple Beth El. He was in charge of in- dustrial and public rela- tions at Borman's and was a member of the Michigan Merchants Council and the Detroit Retail Merchants Association. Active in the United Foundation Torch Drive since 1951, he was a past chairman of its food divi- sion. He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America, the League for the Handicapped, in • fund-raising for the De- troit Symphony and was a past board member of the Franklin Community Association. Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife, Saralee; a son, Michael; and a daughter, Mrs. John (Ronnie) Colman.
