WHEN YOU TALK of knowledge about food ... few people can match the cooking experience of Steve Garontakos, owner with ever-smiling wife Betty, at Dubbs Country Kitchen, 10 Mile and Greenfield. The Old Place, which he opened for Diamond Phillips; Cliff Bell's; Topinka's On the Blvd. for the late Ken Nicholson; Frank Gagen's; Roostertail; Savayard Club in the Buhl Bldg.; Jim's Garage; Franklin Hills Country Club and Roma's of Bloomfield. Being a stickler for good food, Steve tastes and over- sees everything after it is made ... which is why cus- tomers at Dubbs have confi- dence when they know Steve is there supervising. "Here is what a group of men did for a good waitress. Every Wednesday evening there are eight men that go to Jakks Restaurant for din- ner. Recently something went wrong with the plumb- ing, because of the rain storm, and the place had to close. Ann Pelleccioni, the good waitress, called to tell someone of the problem, so they would not come down and find it closed. It was then decided to go to the Danish Club for dinner, and Ann Pelleccioni was invited to be their guest. Once a month the wives are also in- cluded, and we too agree she is a great gal." — Ida Sher "P.S. The names of the men are: Julian Winston , Harold Sher, Joe Kahn, Herman Yarrows, Sam Yura, Sam Glassman, Charles Jacobson and Say- more Serlin."
