AN ADVENTURE into
a new world of international
elegance is a phrase that
can be aptly applied to the
Bonaventure restaurant
opened three months ago on
Big Beaver, next to the Top
"Of Troy Bldg.
At a cost of about a half-
million dollars, Bonaven-
ture was built with only the
four walls standing . .
The decor is intimate with
soft colors and beautiful ap-
pointments . . . Seating is
for 230 persons, including a
lattice-enclosed patio Gar-
den Room with wicker fur-
niture and about 30-person
setting.
Bonaventure strongly
hints at a romantic environ
with dimmed lights, elegant
relaxed interior amid a very
well laid-out atmosphere.
The internationalism
comes in with the huge,
varied menu . . . and its
owners . . - Costas
Kyriakopoulos, Greek;
Doug Wong, Chinese;
John Watanabe,
Japanese; and Ray Wise,
American . . . all are
working partners, from
lunch throughout dinner
. . . doing everything
necessary in the restaur-
ant business . . - from
fixing the air condition-
ing to washing dishes and
cooking.
Victor Roth, son of Edith
and Nate Roth (president of
Bnai Moshe Men's Club)
and one of the most person-
able waiters around, is a
welcomed sight for those
who've had Vic wait on
them at other top places he
has been at.
Behind the bar at
Bonaventure are also a
couple of goodies . .
brothers Joe and Nino
Buhagiar.
at
emphasis
The
Bonaventure is on quality
. . . with everything made
to order at lunch or dinner.
Reservations are advised
during the week . . . and
strongly suggested for Fri-
day and Saturday nights.
LOOKS LIKE Jim Con-
stand will be the new owner
of Grecian Gardens on Mon-
roe . . . Jim owns the popu-
lar Jim's Garage.
REMOTE RUMOR is
that Carl's Chop House may
put up a building on Everg-
reen north of 10 Mile.

Senior Citizen" who last
week asked through ..he
column why restaurants
don't have senior citizen
discounts, Patty Hoak jing-
les the telephone about
cards being printed by Fior
d'Italia, 12 Mile and
Northwestern, to be ready
in about a week . . . The
SC's will receive a 20 per-
cent discount day or even-
ing.
IS IT TRUE . . . that
Buddy's Bar-B-Q will open
in Applegate Square on
Northwestern and Inkster
Rd.? . . . Buddy's will be a
Meyerson operation, just
like yesteryears . . Jerry
and Arlyn have been look-
ing for a place to open a
Buddy's Bar-B-Q.
VINEYARD HAS re-
turned to Top of the Pontch
for a one-month engage-
ment until Aug. 5, playing'
for dancing from 7 p.m. to 1
a.m. Tuesdays through
Saturdays . . . The group is
led by Joe Rosanova, Jr.
. . . combining talents with
leader singer/keyboard
man Bart Fiori to make
Vineyard one of the best
known local groups for more
than 10 years . . Also in
the quintet is Matt Blazen,
guitarist; Barry Steinberg,
bassist and vocalist, and
Martha "Marty" Helppie,
vocalist.
Top of the Pontch is on the
25th floor of Hotel
Pontchartrain, which is also
a downtown hot spot for
Chuck Muer's highly suc-
cessful P'Jazz series on the
poolside terrace.
Two of Detroit's most
highly acclaimed jazz bands

tory of the summer concert
series.
NEVER ENJOYED A
hot dog better than one we
had at home last week .. .
Frieda had gotten some
Chinese food that cost an
arm and a leg . . . and was
too tasteless to finish .
(Ever think you'd see the
day when a container of
plain, very soggy Chinese
vegetables would cost
$3.95) . . . Thank Heaven
for the good American hot
dog!
