NEW YORK (JTA) —
The Central Conference of
American Rabbis has urged
the American Red Cross to
withhold financial support
from the International
Committee of the Red Cross
(ICRC) as long as it refuses
to recognize Israel's Magen
David Adorn.

411,

In a letter to George M.
Elsey, president of the
American Red Cross, Rabbi
Joseph B. Glaser, executive
vice president of the CCAR,
the Reform rabbinical
movement, acknowledged

that "the American Red
Cross has taken the proper
public position with respect
to the politicized position of
the International Red Cross
not to recognize Magen
David Adorn."
But, he added, "There is
more that the American
Red Cross could do. I am re-
ferring specifically to the
substantial financial sup-
port given the International
Red Cross by the American
Red Cross. I know that re-
commendations along this
line have been made and
buried."

Weizman-Gamassy Hot Line

Long after you have gone, forests in Israel
renewing themselves in the cycle of sea-
sons, will keep your memory ever green.
When making your Will, provide that a
forest in Israel be planted in your name or
in that of someone dear to you, handing
down your last wish from generation to
generation.

TEL AVIV (JTA) — An
MK of Likud's Liberal Party
wing said that Defense
Minister Ezer Weizman has
been maintaining regular
communication with his
Egyptian counterpart,
Minister of War Abdel
Gamassy.
According to Pessah
Grouper, speaking at a
meeting of the Liberal Par-
ty's Central Committee,
Weizman and Gamassy
speak by telephone every
few days. He said it was the
only direct contact between

PARIS (JTA) — Marseil-
les Mayor Gatson Deferre
denounced the recent in-
crease of neo-Nazi ac-
tivities.
Deferre, who is a promi-
nent Socialist Party leader
and a former French Presi-
dential candidate, said that
in the city of Marseilles it-
self, "anti-Semitic slogans
are painted on walls, Jewish
institutions desecrated and
people in Nazi uniforms ap-
pear in public."
He explained that it was
in view of these facts that he
signed a municipal decree
last month banning Nazi
insignia and Nazi uniforms
from the city's streets.
The decree, unpublicized
until now, ordered city
police to arrest, detain and
prosecute all those breaking
the ban. City officials said
this morning that as far as
they know no arrests have
been made but the decree it-
self seems to have had a de-
terrent effect on neo-Nazi
elements.

NEW YORK (ZINS) —
Engineering News Record
magazine reports that jobs
for Americans in the Middle
East are continuing to in-
crease.
The Ralph M. Parsons co.
is building the Yanbu in-
dustrial complex on the Red
Sea for Saudi Arabia; The
U.S. Army Corps of En-
gineers employs more than
800 Americans in the Mid-
dle East; Arabian American
Oil Co. (ARAMCO) employs
2,800 Americans in Saudi
Arabia; and Grumman
Corp. believes that 400
Americans and their 1,000
dependents will work in
Saudi Arabia to service
American planes there.

Rabbi Glaser's refer-
ence was to a resolution
introduced at the recent
American Red Cross
convention in Hartford,
Conn., by Mark K. Pow-
ers, a member of the
board of the Harrisburg,
Pa., Red Cross and co-
chairman of the area dis-
aster services unit.
It stated, in part, that
"Whereas the American
Red Cross has been con-
tinuously at the forefront of
the movement for recogni-
tion of the Magen David
Adorn ... it be resolved that
until Magen David Adorn is
admitted to its rightful
place in the Red Cross fam-
ily, that the American Red
Cross will not support fi-

nancially any of the ac-
tivities of the International
Committee of the Red Cross
and the League of Red Cross
Societies. The convention
referred the resolution for
administrative action pend-
ing a full report by Dec. 31.
