tions, died June 18_ at age
73.
Born in Poland, Mrs.
Plafkin lived 52 years in
Detroit. She was a member
of Pioneer Women, the
Halevi Singing Society and
Adat Shalom Synagogue
Choir. She was educated in
Vilna and in all areas of
Jewish literature. She
studied painting at the
Jewish Community Center.
She leaves her husband,
Morris; a daughter, Mrs. E.
Ronald (Esther) Milan; a
sister, Mrs. Rivka Feldman
of Tel Aviv, Israel; and four
grandchildren.

Prof. Shlomo Marenof,
former chairman of the de-
partment of Near Eastern
studies at the University of
Detroit, died May 12 in
Sarasota, Fla.
Born in Kiev, Russia,
Prof. Marenof settled in
pre-state Israel in 1920 and
in Chicago in 1930. He re-
ceived an MA degree from
the University of Chicago in
1932.
In 1948, Prof. Marenof
joined the faculty of Bran-
deis University and was one
of the 10 original founding
_professors of the institution.
He came to Detroit in 1958
and retired to Florida in
1974.
He is survived by his wife,
Martha; a daughter, Ar-
nona Eisenberg of Cleve-
land; and three grand-
daughters.
