Junior Division at its an-
nual meeting and 40th an-
niversary celebration June
14 at the Jewish Commun-
ity Center.

Kaufman Seeks Judgeship

Bernard L. Kaufman has
announced his candidacy
for judge of the Oakland
County Circuit Court.
Kaufman was graduated
from Wayne State Univer-
sity's law school in 1953. He
was appointed an associate
member of the Interna-
tional Association of Acci-
dent Boards and Commis-
sions and to the Lawyer to
Lawyer Consultation panel.
An arbitrator of the
American Arbitration
Association and a former
assistant judge advocate
general, Kaufman also is
a charter member of the
litigation section of the
American Bar Associa-
tion. He hps been an as-
sociate editor of the
Journal of the American

In his final report to the
division, immediate past
president Bonin announced
that Junior Division has so
far raised more than
$302,000 for the 1978 Allied
Jewish Campaign-Israel
Emergency Fund. More
than 2,250 persons made
pledges to the Campaign
through Junior Division; of
these, 720 were new gifts. .
Former Federation Pres-
ident Alan E. Schwartz
brought anniversary greet-
ings to the division on be-
half of the Jewish Welfare
Federation.
Kenneth J. Safran was
chairman of the annual
meeting.

Heads Volunteers

Fay Isackson was elected
president for a two-year
term of the Tri-County
Braille Volunteers at their
annual spring meeting.
Accredited by the Library
of Congress, the volunteers
transcribe textbooks used
by the visually impaired in
the Wayne, Oakland and
Macomb County schools,
and restaurant menus, CB
manuals and individual re-
quests. For information on
the free services offered by
the volunteer group, call as-
signment chairman, Emily

Kaufman also served on
committees of the Detroit

Study in Itrael

Nearly 50 high school and
college students from De-
troit will leave this month
for programs in Israel,
sponsored by the American
Zionist Youth Foundation,
double the enrollment from
last year's program.
The students, who met
with shlilthim Natan Bac-
hrach and Joshua Tabak,
for orientation last week,
will participate in ar-
cheological digs, tours, Ul-
panim and will work at
kibutzim and do volunteer
work in addition to studying
at Israeli universities.
Some of the students
will stay in Israel for six
weeks, while four of the
students will participate
in the year-long Sherut
La'Am program.
A reunion is planned for
the end of the summer to
perpetuate the ties formed
in Israel.
