Baltimore Starts

`Building' Eruv

BALTIMORE — A sym-
bolic wall — eruv — around
a Baltimore neighborhood
with 5,000 Orthodox Jewish
residents is being con-
structed after being in the
planning stage for more
than a year.
The eruv, which sym-
bolizes an extension of a
household in order to allow
Orthodox Jews to carry
items outside the house on
the Sabbath, is being "con-
structed" by designating
existing telephone and
power lines and placing
wires where necessary; . • „
