LISTENING
POST
A SWEET 16 party and
no presents for the guest of
honor? . . . Not really . .
Lisa Fishman, daughter of
David and Deena Fishman,
decided she wanted gifts for
leukemia-stricken children
instead of for herself . . .
and so advised all her
friends and relatives . . .
They're to be sent to the
Children's Leukemia Foun-
dation and distributed to
these_ children.
There gathered recently
an array of young ladies
carrying beautifully wrap-
ped and tied gifts of all
shapes and sizes for these
sick youngsters . . . Lisa
was beaming as she ac-
cepted them.
It was a most thrilling ex-
perience for executive direc-
tor of the foundation, Sylvia
Brown, (Mrs. Harry S.), who
sees it as the setting of "a
wonderful example for our
young people and perhaps
will inspire others to be as
considerate of the less for-
tunate, in all realms, as
Lisa is."
BIRTHDAY CON-
GRATS . . . to Ron Eddy,
hair stylist at Charter
House Barbers, on number
40 . . . "Wonder what new
hair style I can come up
with for 40-year-olds?" asks
Ron.
BEST BET OF The
Weekend . . . Casino
Royale Millionaires Party
tonight at Town & Country
Club . . . by New Horizons
Chapter of the City of Hope.
DR. ALLAN_ TESSER,
member of the dermatology
team at Henry Ford Hospi-
tal, enters his own private
practice, July 1 . . . on
Telegraph and Square Lake
Rd.
NEW OWNERS OF Pil-
low Talk on Nine Mile, east
of Coolidge, June Rubens-
tein and Shirley Freed,
have a while-you-wait pil-
low and quilt cleaning and
renovating operation . . .
So far they have found al-
most everything except
money inside the pillows
.. even a person's tooth —
roots and all! •

Night, 8 p.m., at Somerset
Clubhouse in Troy . . . by
Ilyse Simon Guild, City of
Hope.
BIRTHDAY CON-
GRATS . . . to Sarah
Finegood . . . on a beautiful
84th.
PUT ASIDE THE date
of July 19 . . . that's when
Mr. & Mrs. Group, City of
Hope, has its annual moon-
light cruise . . always a
biggie affair.
LOCALE OF Grace and
Herman Berlin is now
Coronado, Calif.. .. Their
apartment is called
"Coronado Shores."
RONALD KARNS, six-
year-old son of Andrea and
Louis Earns, was being
shown a neighbor's new
baby boy last week, and
seemed especially in-
terested in the infant's hair-
less condition . . ."Where'd
you say he came from?" he
asked, and was told from
Heaven . . . "Well," mar-
veled little Ronnie, "they
sure give close haircuts in
Heaven, don't they.?"
LOOKING BACK on
Columns of Yesteryears
. . . May 16, 1969 . . .
"While at Metropolitan
Airport recently, Judge
Marvin Frankel of Oak
Park noticed a young ac-
quaintance of his feeding
money into the machine
that automatically issues
insurance policies . . .
Staring at the fistful of
policies, Mary exclaimed
that he really must be af-
raid of planes . . . and the
young fellow replied,
"Naafi, I always do this
when1 fly. I send an insur-
ance policy to each of my
girl friends, listing her as
my sole heir and MAN,
you'd be surprised how that
succeeds in cementing rela-
tions!"
June 13, 1969 . . . "In
Sunday school class she
taught before returning
here from Los Angeles re-
cently, Edith Rosen tells of
the children just finishing
studying the Ten Com-
mandments . . . On a writ-
ten test she asked what is
meant by the word 'adul-
tery' . . . One little girl
wrote, 'Adultery is the sin of
saying you're older than you
really are.' "
This Takes The Cake
Dept . . . Driving down a
side street recently, barris-
ter Mike Hechtman barely
avoided colliding with' a
woman driver who had sud-
denly turned into her home
driveway . . . He bitterly
asked the lady 'why she
didn't signal and she re-
plied, "Why should I? I al-
ways turn here!' "
Dr. Richard Nichols,
ear, nose and throat head at
Henry Ford Hospital, by
some miracle doesn't have
any marks on his shins
He holds a stuck-out tongue
with the pulling firmness of
a tug-of-war anchor man
and tells patients to swal-
low as tears come to their
eyes . . . Thank Heavens
he leaves go before you
choke . . . The yen is to
grab his tongue and, with
eyes gleaming wildly, ask
how HE likes it.

Choice meats to choose from. Plus several other new food items, and

French Motives
JERUSALEM (ZINS) —
Israeli observors believe
French participation in the
UN peace-keeping force in
Lebanon was a move by Fr-
ance to exert its influence in
the Middle East.
The French, they say,
would like to have a politi-
cal role in the region, but
Israel is critical of France's
pro-Arab policies and arms
sales.
