The court described the defen- dant as a man who lost all semblance of humanity. He is held responsible, among other crimes, for planting bombs in the Tel Aviv and Petah Tikva veg- etable markets and placing - bombs on buses where they would do maximum damage to innocent persons. Although Assba did not personally carry out the bombings, he planned and organized them, manufac- tured the bombs and gave the orders, the court said. Assba showed no signs of remorse at his sentencing, expressing satisfaction over the casualties he caused and regretted only that more people were not killed.
