Educator Jay Bodzin Dies, Was Active in Communal Life

years. He was principal
of the Shaarey Zedek
School on W. Seven Mile
for one year.

Mr. Bodzin conducted
High Holiday services at
several synagogues over the
years and was active at
Cong. Bnai Zion, formerly
located on Humphrey
Street; at Nusach H'Ari
synagogue, when it was lo-
cated on Homer Street; and
at Cong. Mishkan Israel
Nusach H'Ari —
Lubavitcher Center in Oak
Park.

Dr. Benjamin R. Parker, a
general practitioner in pri-
vate medical practice until
his association with Sinai
Hospital six years ago, died
June 12 at age 71.
Born in New York, Dr.
Parker lived 61 years in De-
troit. He was graduated
from the then Wayne Uni-
versity Medical School and
did an internship at Detroit
Receiving Hospital.
He was a member of the
American Medical Associa-
tion, Wayne County Medi-
cal Society, American
Academy of Family Prac-
tice, Perfection Lodge of the
Masons and the Sherlock
Holmes Society of London.
He was an officer in the
Phi Delta Epsilon Medical
Fraternity and a major in
the U.S. Army Medical
Corps from 1942 to 1945.
He leaves a son, Dr. Bruce
of Palo Alto, Calif.; two
daughters, Mrs. Norman
(Barbara) Ratner and Mrs.
Harriet Parker-Bass of San
Francisco, Calif.; a brother,
Dr. Max; and four grand-
children.

porter of Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah and Akiva Heb-
rew Day School and took
an active interest in other
charitable organizations.
He resided at 25832 Lin-
coln Terrace Dr., Oak
Park.

Mr. Bodzin is survived by
his wife, Pauline; four sons,
Joel, Dr. Eugene of Mab-
erly, Ontario, Gerald of
Rochester, N.Y., and Henry;
a daughter, Mrs. Eugene
(Cherney) Kowalsky; three
brothers, David, Harry and
Jack; five sisters, Mrs.
Harry (Rose) Blitz, Mrs.
Milton (Marion) Duchan,
Mrs. Marvin (Esther) Selig-
son, Mrs. Irving (Ruth)
Pachman of Brooklyn, N.Y.,
and Yetta; and 12 grand-
children.
