The Algerian authorities set up a temporary synagogue for the pilgrims in the city's main hotel, "The Zianides," where they also found a strictly kosher kitchen and accommoda- tions. The Jews said they were surprised by the warm wel- come they received. They said upon their return to Paris that literally hun- dreds of their former Mos- lem neighbors showed up at the hotel in the hope of U.S. Arms Sales to Arabs Blasted LONDON (JTA) — Is- raeli Minister of Agricul- ture Ariel Sharon accused the United States of being the main arms supplier to the Arab states and said Is- rael did not take seriously pledges by the Arab states that the American arms would not be used against Israel. Local AFabs said and kept repeating to the vis- itors: "We (the Arabs) even want peace with Is- rael. What more can you expect after (President Anwar) Sadat's visit to Jerusalem? Now it is up to Israel to show its good will and peaceful inters lions. As for us (Algerian Jews and Arabs) let us be brothers like in the old days." IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII LL This Is THE SALE - = Journalists Blast Israel Secrecy TEL AVIV (JTA) — Journalists representing three major organizations of their profession met at Beth Sokolow here last week to consider measures that will ensure the free flow of polit- ical information. The subject has become a matter of concern since the Likud government took of- fice a year ago because it has made greater use than its predecessors of the law that allows the Cabinet to meet in the guise of a ministerial security com- mittee, the deliberations of which are classified and may be withheld from the media. A deputation of editors raised the matter with Premier Menahem Begin last February. He acknow- ledged the problem and promised to limit Cabinet security meetings as much as possible. But the jour- nalists assembled here charged that the promise was not kept. They 'represented the Committee of Daily News- paper Editors, the National Journalists Association and the Press Council. Meanwhile, the pres- idium of the National Fed- eration of Israeli Jour- nalists has protested against the suppression of press freedom in Egypt.
