THE DETROIT JEWISH 11 S

Danny Raskin's

LISTENING
POST

FANNY
TA N-
NENHAUS had a wonder-
ful double celebration yes-
terday . . . It was her 85th
birthday . . . and 65th
wedding anniversary to
hubby Max . . The family
feted her birthday with a
luncheon . . . and in July,
when others can come in
from California, an an-
niversary celebration will
be held.
70 MEMBERS of the
Helen Rosenberg Cancer
Fighters, City of Hope, will
be honored for outstanding
service in fund raising . . .
at a banquet, 7 p.m., June
29, Northfield Hilton.

MAIL DEPT.. . . "Why

•

doesn't the owner of the
Landmark Bldg., Lincoln
Rd. and Greenfield, clean up
the parking lot? It's full of
broken glass and flattened
beer cans. I understand the
owner is a prominent citizen
and can afford to have it
cleaned once a month. I cal-
led Royal Oak Township but
nothing happened. Could
they put a bus shelter across
from Northgate Apts.? It's
too hot to stand in the sun."
A Senior Citizen.

RETIREMENT
PARTY for Mildred Skelly

was given at the Detroit
Yacht Club . . . after her
years as a teacher, principal
and administrator in the
Detroit School System.

GET WELL WISHES
. . to Dr. Henry Raskin at

H enry Ford Hospital.

ropolitan Detroit Science
and Engineering Fair at
Cobo Hall . . . Her winning
project was, "The Guppy As
A Model For Cancer Re-
search" . . . Susan rep-
resented Michigan at the

International Science and
Engineering Fair in
Anaheim, Calif., where she
was also grand prize winner
in medicine and health . .
and is a first award winner
from the American Veteri-
nary Medical Association
for comparative medicine
. . Susan is only 17-
years-old and a senior at

GET WELL WISHES
.. to Fay Lan . . . at Harper

DON'T FORGET the
Crippled Children and
Divan Night by Crescent
Shrine Club . . this Mon-
day evening . . . at Raleigh
House . . . Members, their
ladies and friends are all in-
vited . . . Social hour starts
at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7
p.m. . . . with dancing to
Frank Venice and his or-
chestra . . Fred Martin is
chairman, assisted by Oscar
Kahan.

FOOD PRICKS keep ris-
ing, but this isn't the
biggest worry of restaura-
teurs . . High overhead
and cost of operation are the
real killers.

FROM 12 TO 78 in age
. . . men and women . .
discoing across the Jewish
Center's dance and art
studios at both the main and
Ten Mile centers . . .
couples and singles . .
Most start out shy and re-
served, some a little nerv-
ous, others with some
background in dance not as
reserved . . . all with a lit-
tle touch of the disco fever
touching the country ..
The classes are from 15 to 45
in number per class, day
and morning, many return-
ing for the intermediate and
continued sessions . . .
having fun.
ItIvasn't only the "Satur-
day Night Fever" movie
. . Esther Pastor was
teaching some of this last
year before the picture hit
the nation . . . It certainly
made a difference, though,
and has brought quite a re-
sponse to the centers . . .
Some come for exercise, but
most for pleasure . . .
others for curiosity in them-
selves — "Can I get the
hang of it?" . . or what's it
all about . . Some learn
and use it, hoping they
aren't too foolish . . Some
want to learn enough to get
by for a special affair or
party . . Regardless
whatever, just using it
around the house for them-
selves, or out in public for an
affair or at a public disco, or
for the exercise, Esther says
they feel better . . . have
more energy, and a sense of
achievement in this ac-
complishment.
Classes are 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Monday and Thursday at 10
Mile . . . and Thursday at
Maple and Drake.
