Sinai Hospital Guild Marks 25th at Meeting at Shaarey Zedek
The 5,000-member Sinai
Hospital Guild celebrated
its 25th year of service to
the hospital at a noon lunc-
heon meeting last week at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
A highlight of the guild's
annual meeting was the
presentation of a gift of
$75,000 made by Mrs.
Philip Krawitz, chairman of
the Sinai Gift Shop, to Dr.
Julien Priver, executive
vice president of the hospi-
tal. The gift represents the
year's profits from the gift
shop. Thus far, the guild
has contributed more than
$1 million to the hospital,
half of which came from gift

During the program, Mrs.
Peter Martin, chairman of
the Sinai Hospital Guild
Endowment Fund, spoke on
the newly-created project to
further the interest of medi-
cal education and research
which as of last week's
meeting is known as the
"Arch of Friends." She indi-
cated that the guild board of
directors has set an endow-
ment fund goal of $1 mill-
ion.
Another feature of the
meeting was the presen-
tation of an original pro-
duction called "Shout
Happy Birthday," an his-
torical account of the
guild's role at Sinai,
which also is marking its
silver anniversary this
year. The musical was
written by Mrs. Murray
Mahlin and directed by
Mrs. William P. Green-
berg with assistance
from Mrs. Jeanne Bortz
and Mrs. Mahlin. Pro-
ducers were Mrs. Margie
Cowan and Mrs. Mahlin.
Choreographer was Mrs.
Bortz and musical ar-
rangements were pre-
pared by Lois Novitz.
The cast included Lois
Spector and David Herme-
lin. Singers were Doris Au-
gust, Betty Fishman, Jean
Goren, Cookie Klein, Geri
Levit, Joan Linden, Sylvia
Mevis, Betty Sklar and Ina
Sky.
Dancers included Dassie
Brent, Dolores Gordon,
Marilyn Hartz, Peggy
Lakind, Nancy Mahlin, Sue
Watnick, Peggy Miller, Do-
lores Silverstein, Blume
Schechter, Judy Stillman,

tary school children
• the establishment of an expanded program for gifted
children
• creation of S.A.T. preparatory course in our high
schools

Mrs. Herbert Blumberg
was honored "for her
service to the hospital"
and received a gift of ap-
preciation from the guild
as she ended her two-
year term as guild presi-
dent. The presentation to
Mrs. Blumberg was made
by her mother, Mrs.
Joseph Hartman, a 25-
year guild honoree, hon-
orary chairman and first
coordinator of volun-
teers.
The installation of new of-
ficers was conducted by
Mrs. Sylvia Prady with the
installation of in-coming
president Mrs. Ray Shapero
being conducted by Mrs.
Nate Shapero, hotiorary
chairman of the gift shop.
Other officers installed
included Mrs. Nathan
Greenhouse, president-
elect; Mrs. George Parzen,
vice president of program;
Mrs. Harold Weisberg, vice
president of volunteers;
Mrs. Harry Aronow, assis-
tant financial secretary;
Mrs. Albert Burrows, trea-
surer; Mrs. Irving Siporin
assistant treasurer; and
Mrs. Leo Sobel, recording
secretary.
First year board of direc-
tors were also installed.
They include Mesdames
Jack Gorov, Hermelin,
David Kessler, Arthur
Mevis, Parzen, Saul Saul-
son and Weisberg.
Officers continuing
their terms are Mrs. Max
Langer, vice president of
the gift shop; Mrs. Avery
Fried, corresponding
secretary; and Mrs. Mil-
ton Howard, financial
secretary.
Mrs. Blumberg also cited
those hospital volunteers
who have served Sinai for
the past quarter century. A
volunteer awards ceremony
was conducted by Mrs.
Hartman and Mrs. Ger-
trude Resnik.
Honored for 25 years of
continuous service were:

Saul Dunitz, David Dunsky,
Joseph Fenton, Seymour

Bud Rosenthal, Milton Ro-

John Sills, William Sloman,
Isadore Winkleman and
Oscar Zemon.
Each of the honorees lit
a candle on a special cake
which marked the guild's
25th birthday.
Chairman of the day's ac-
tivities was Mrs. Nathan
Greenhouse.
Program for Kids
The Bloomfield Township
Public Library will present
a children's program, for
youth age 4 - 8, 2 p.m. Thurs-
day in the library's Green
Room. Admission is free.
Mrs. Philip Krawitz, chairman of the Sinai Hospital
