Sophie Udell, 77,
NYANA Founder

NEW YORK — Sophie
Spector Udell, a founder in
1949 of the New York As-
sociation for New Ameri-
cans and its former presi-
dent, died Tuesday at age
77.
Mrs. Udell was chairman
of the executive committee
of NYANA since 1975 and
was a former chairman of
the women's division of the
Federation of Jewish
Philanthropies.
She was a former chair-
man of the Jewish Child
Care Association of New
York and a member of the
board of the United Jewish
Appeal of Greater New
York.

Marshall Kuhn,
SF Jewish Leader

SAN FRANCISCO (JTA)
— Marshall H. Kuhn, a
former official of the Jewish
Community Center and of
the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion in San Francisco, died
May 18 at age 62.
Born in San Francisco, he
had been executive director
of the Center and director of
the federation community
endowment fund. He also
had served a variety of
philanthropic organizations
as a volunteer.

Romanian Olim
Arrive in Israel

TEL AVIV (JTA) — A
group of more than 50 im-
migrants arrived from
Romania last week, the
largest group to come from
that East European country
in months.
Romanian Chief Rabbi
Moshe Rosen, who was in
Israel for the meeting of the
governing board of the
World Jewish Congress,
said that Romanian officials
have placed no limitations
on the number of exit visas
to Israel.
Meanwhile, Absorption
Ministry officials expect an
increase in the number of
immigrants from the Soviet
Union, with as many as
1,000 arrivals a month as
compared to the 600-700
who have been arriving in
recent months.

2nd Victim Dead
in Orly Incident

PARIS (JTA) — A second .
French policeman died May
25 as a result of wounds sus-
tained during the May 20
terrorist attack against El
Al passengers at the Orly
Airport.
A non-commissioned of-
ficer also killed in the at-
tack, Sgt. Maj. Paul Jean,
was named "a hero of the
nation" by the French gov-
ernment and posthumously
promoted to the rank of
lieutenant in the French
crack police unit of the re-
publican security squads.
Two more policemen in-
volved in the shootout with
the terrorists are still hos-
pitalized but their condition
was described as "satisfac-
tory."

David Wenner, 56

David Wenner, co-owner
and president of Michigan
Crane, Inc., in Troy, died
May 29 at age 56.
A native Detroiter, Mr.
Wenner was graduated
from Wayne State Univer-
sity in 1950. He was a
member of Temple Israel.
He leaves his wife,
Rachel; two daughters, Mrs.
Richard (Karen) Scherba of
Hamden, Conn., and
Naomi; and two brothers,
Harold and Ben.

Day Krolik, Jr.

Day Krolik, Jr., president
of the Krolik Corp. a
wholesale clothing and ' dry
goods firm, died May 27 at
age 65.

tute teacher in the Ferndale
school system for 25 years,
died May 25 at age 58.
Born in Cleveland, Mrs.
Friedman lived 40 years in
Detroit. She was a Sunday
school teacher at Temple
Emanu-El for the past 27
years. She was a member of
the temple, former trea-
surer of its sisterhood and a
vice president.
She was a past president
of the Ferndale PTA Coun-
cil, past president of the
Ferndale High School
PTSA, past president of the
Lincoln Junior High School
PTA, and past president of
the Best Elementary School
PTA. She resided at 24220
Seneca, Oak Park.
She leaves her husband,
Robert H.; three sons, Gary,
Daniel of East Lansing, and
Stanley; two daughters,
