pleted a 10-day fact-finding
mission in Israel.
As one of nine members of
an official delegation of
lieutenant governors,
Damman received a first-
hand look a many aspects
of the Holy Land and met
with top Israeli officials, in-
cluding— Prime Minister
Menahem Begin and Shi-
mon Peres, leader of the
Labor Party.
Damman was particu-
larly interested in Israel's
economic development.
Besides the develop-
ment of the Dead Sea
area, the group viewed
advanced agricultural
techniques in the kibut-
zim of the Galilee.
The tour included stops at
holy places in Jerusalem,
Bethlehem, Nazareth and
the Galilee, and a visit at
the "Good Fence" on the
Lebanese border.
Damman met with Minis-
ter of Defense Ezer Weiz-
man in Tel Aviv and
planted trees in the Ameri-
can Bicentennial Park.

world are expected to attend
the Israeli Dental Associa-
tion conference July 2-6.

Sosin, Zeff Head Balfour Concert
ZOD Re-Elects Maxwell Hoffman

Dr. Maxwell Hoffman,
who was re-elected presi-
dent of the Zionist Organi-
zation of Detroit at the an-
nual meeting on May 25,
announced that Max Sosin,
who is prominent in many
activities for Israel and in
social services here, will be
co-chairman of the annual
Balfour Concert with Dr.
Lester Zeff, who was the
concert chairman last year.
The concert this year will
be held at Cong. Shaarey
Zedek on Nov. 12 Mrs.
Philip Slomovitz, program
chairman, announced at
the annual meeting that a
Russian-born Israeli vio-
linist who is gaining world
acclaim and a duo from the
Boston Symphony Or-
chestra will be featured at
this year's concert. The
program will be announced
soon.
Besides Dr. Hoffman,
ZOD officers elected for the

Kern Hospital Bond Guests

Jennie Guttentag, for-
merly of Detroit and Pon-
tiac, was honored recently
by family and friends in Ft.
Lauderdale, Fla., on the oc-
casion of her 90th birthday.
Her children are Mr. and
Mrs. Bert (Edna) Kanarek
of Ft. Lauderdale, Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence (Elaine) Gut-
tentag of North Miami
Beach, Fla., and Mr. and
Mrs. Sydney (Selma) Daye
of Los Angeles, Calif. She
has eight grandchildren
and five great-
grandchildren. Relatives
from Michigan, New York,
Pennsylvania, Georgia and
California attended the

State of Israel's Maimonides Award at the first
podiatric hospital sponsored event on behalf of Israel
Bonds in the U.S. More than $155,500 was raised for
Israel's economic development program at the Kern
Hospital dinner. Congratulating Dr. Kaplan are Dr.

New JNF Headquarters
Has 25-Year Connection

On the day that Percy
Kaplan was honored last
month for 25 years of ser-
vice with Jewish National
Fund, he completed a lease
agreement for a new office
for JNF with the grandson
of the man who encouraged
Kaplan to comp to Detroit.

Israel Is Feted,
Youths Attacked

CHICAGO (JTA) — Emi-
nent scholars and theolo-
gians participated last week
in an Interfaith Conference,
"The Survival of Israel —
Theological and Moral
Perspectives," which
marked the academic high-
light of Israel Independence
Month in Chicago.
In another event, a
citywide college student
celebration May 11 at the
University of Illinois Circle
Campus (Chicago) was
marred when the hundreds
of celebrants were attacked
by about 50 Arab students.

!CAPLAN, HORDES

Irving Hordes, who has
just been named a realtor-
associate with Schostak
Brothers, is the grandson of
the late William Hordes,
who served as president of
JNF in Detroit for several
terms.
The new JNF office is lo-
cated at 27310 Southfield
Rd., Lathrup Village, and
opened yesterday.
