at Bar-Ilan Commencement

RAMAT GAN, Israel —
Setting of a precedent to
honor a husband-wife team
with honorary doctorates
will be occasion for special
encomia in which American
and Israeli leaders will par-
ticipate at the commence-
ment exercises of Bar-Han
University, in Ramat Gan,
Israel, on June 20.
A large delegation of De-
troiters, including members
of their family, will ac-
company Frieda and Max
Stollman for the event at
which they and the other
honorees will be honored
with Doctor of Humane Let-
ters degrees.
Leaders of American
Friends of Bar-Ban Univer-
sity and members of the
administrative staffs of the
university will participate
in the planned events.
In addition to the
Stollmans, honorary de-
grees will be confered
upon Nissim Gaon, Ab-
raham Spiegel and Israel
Supreme Court Justice
Yitzhak Hister.
Gaon is the president of
State of Israel Bonds in
Switzerland, where he
makes his home. He has
been the Swiss delegate to
the reorganized Jewish
Agency since 1971 and has
led the World Sephardi
Federation since 1973.
A resident of Beverly
Hills, Calif., Spiegel plays
an active role in that Jewish
community's activities. He
is a member of the board of
the Jewish Federation
Council, member of the
board of Jewish Education
and Community Relations
Committee, a founder and
member of the board of the
Rambam Torah Institute;

Mrs. Stollman has an
especially noteworthy
career in communal work.
She is the first woman to be
elected a vice president of
the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion of Detroit.
She was the organizer
and national president of
the Women's Division of
Bar-Ilan University and the
organizer of women's chap-
ters in many cities.
The Stollmans are
among the founders of
Akiva Hebrew Day
School and have donated
funds for a kindergarten
building for the school.
They are leaders in the
Young Israel movement.
Mrs. Stollman was co-
chairman of the Israel
Bond Women's Division
for many years. She also
is a member of the Na-
tional Council of the
Joint Distribution Com-
mittee.
Max Stollman is a
member of the board of
overseers of Bar-Ilan Uni-
versity. He is active in Miz-
rachi and Young Israel and
is on the board of Young Is-
rael of Oak-Woods.
The Stollmans were hon-
ored in 1975 on the 27th an-
niversary of the state of Is-
rael and on the establish-
ment of the Stollman Fam-
ily Park and Recreation
Area at a Jewish National
Fund dinner.

Justice Kister was named
