THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS 54 Friday, *ay 26, 1918 Sternstein Hits White House NEW YORK (ZINS) — Rabbi Joseph P. Sternstein, president of the Zionist Organization of America, charged the White House with "turning America away from its commitment to a proven friend and ally, the democratic state of Is- rael." Sternstein was com- menting on the results of the Senate vote on the President's plans to sell arms to the nations of the Middle East in a "package." "It is clear," said Rabbi Sternstein, "that the Ad- ministration has suc- cumbed to Arab petro-dollar pressures and this new and dangerous factor is now shaping American foreign policy. "This comes at a time when free nations are al- ready carefully examining the reliability of American commitment. "The Administration," said Rabbi Sternstein, "has created grave doubts, not only in the mind of Israel, but in the entire world which will now question whether our nation can be held accountable for any fu- ture promises and agreements. The retreat of the U.S. from its commit- ments made in September, 1975, in exchange for con- crete territorial concessions from Israel is a subject of deep concern for all." Israeli Dies, 150 JERUSALEM (JTA) — When Israel celebrated its independence 30 years ago, Yussuf Awad Mohammad Burkan was 120 years old, and still going strong. Bur- kan was 100-years-old when he married his third wife who was a mere 17- years-old. She gave him several children. If a man is convinced that his friend is greater than he, even though it be only in worldly pursuits, it is his duty to honor his friend. —The Talmud Brutality Charged to Army in Religious Yo uth's Suicide A related issue is the TEL AVIV (JTA) — The been dealt with within the apparent suicide six months limits of the army.
