Maas on June 4 at Tem- ple Beth El. Held on behalf of the Re- form Jewish Appeal, which benefits the UAHC and He- brew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, the dinner is sponsored by the Metropolitan Detroit Fed- eration of Reform Synagogues. Maas, whose philan- thropies include the chapel at Temple Beth El which bears his name, has served on the Beth El board of trus- tees for many years. Coming here from New York to make a formal presentation to Maas is Matthew H. Ross, chair- man of the board of the UAHC. Vorspan, one of the lead- ing spokesman for the Re- form Jewish movement, in addition to his duties as sec- ond in command to Rabbi Alexander M. Schindler, UAHC president, is also co-director of the union's commission on social action. In a letter to his congre- gation last week, Rabbi Seymour Rosenbloom of Adat Shalom Synagogue announced that he and his wife would leave Detroit in September. Rabbi Rosenbloom will become spiritual leader of Cong. Adath Jeshurun in suburban Philadelphia. In his warm letter, Rabbi Rosenbloom emphasized, "Beth and I have felt a void because- of the separation from members of our family. The example of intense fam- ily relationships in Detroit has made us very conscious of this gap in our lives. "The approaching birth of our first child in- creases our desire for close familial contact with our child's grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins." RABBI ROSENBLOOM Rabbi Rosenbloom has been associated with Adat Shalom for six years. He and his wife will sponsor a kidush following Sabbath services Aug. 25 in honor of the Adat Shalom congrega- tion. Cantors' Traditional Roles Defined on 50th Anniversary Detroit's 15 cantors, who are affiliated with all branches of Judaism, in the Orthodox, Conservative and Reform congregations, are preparing for the con- cert to mark the 50th an- niversary of the Cantors' Council of Detroit. An event set for June 5 at Cong. Shaarey Zedek, will mark the unity of purpose in the cantorial sphere here, according to the surviving pioneer, Cantor Henry Blank, who was among the organizers of the Cantors' Council. Cantor Jacob Barkin will be the soloist at the June 5 concert which will feature a choir of all the participating members. Cantor Blank recalled the pioneer services here of Cantors Mogil, Zaluf- kowsky, Milkovsky, Blum and others. CANTOR BARKIN "These men set the pace for a great traditional adherence and their devo- tions are being emulated by the cantors of our time," Cantor Blank said. "We have a creditable record of which we are justly proud."
