WSU Selects New President Wayne State University has named Dr. Thomas N. Bonner, president of Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., to succeed retiring WSU President George E. Gul len, Jr., effective Aug. 1. Dr. Bonner has served as a professor of history at the University of Cincinnati, and president of the Uni- versity of New Hampshire. He was a Democratic candidate for Congress in 1962 and served two years as a legislative aide to Sen. George McGovern (D-S.D.). Open House Set at UHS Nursery The United Hebrew Schools Nursery School will hold an open house 2 - 5 p.m. Sunday at the school, lo- cated in Temple Emanu-El, Rooms 5 and 7. The school also is taking registration for the 1978- 1979 school year. The nursery program fo- cuses on civics, science, art, interpersonal relationships, holiday observances, and organized and free play. Field trips also are included in the school program. Movie Night Set The Oak Park High School freshman class will hold a movie night 7:30 p.m. June 2 and movie day 12:30 p.m. June 3 at the high school. The hospital provides its patients with all the basic needs — food, shel- ter, clothing and educa- tion as well as medical and surgical care. The staff includes a speech therapist, music therapist and for the Arab children who comprise about 10 percent of the patients, an Arab teacher who instructs them in Arabic and their religious studies. The patients are provided with individual or- thopedic appliances, wheel- fha rifss. braces, artificial thopedic shoes. Jerusalem residents, who cannot fit into any regular school framework because of their physical disabilities are brought daily by the hospital ambulances to ALYN for medical care, education and recreation. ALYN conducts activities aimed at helping patients achieve maximum inde- pendence as soon as they are able. Patients accepted at ALYN must be of normal intelligence as each child participates in a regular school program. An elemen- tary school under the supervision of the special education section of the Ministry of Education is conducted on the premises by teachers specially trained in the education of the handicapped. Emphasis is placed on the preparation of the patients for the future when they are dis- charged from the hospi- tal. The educational and oouvna programs are centered around the Jewish holidays. There also is an outpatient serv- ice. Patient participation in the school orchestra, wheel- chair dances and rec- reational programs through music therapy is em- phasized.
