Avi-Hai Plans Changes for Keren Hayesod
By MAURICE
SAMUELSON
LONDON (JTA) — Plans
to reinvigorate the Keren
Hayesod, umbrella body of
all Israeli fund-raising ap-
peals outside the United
States, were outlined here
by De. Avraham Avi-Hai,
its new chairman-
designate.
A leading Israeli political
scientist, and former senior
official in the Prime Minis-
ter's Office, Avi-Hai says he
would like to replace the
Keren Hayesod's present
directorate, consisting of Is-
raelis, by a world board of
trustees, representing the
communities in which the
Keren Hayesod operates.
The board would lay down
policy and, among other
things, foster cooperation
among fund-raisers in dif-
ferent countries.
Avi-Hai would also like
to concentrate on what
he calls "leadership de-
velopment" so that the
Keren Hayesod will be-

come more dynamic and
aggressive than in the
past. From fund-raising
operation in 70 countries
outside the United States,
the Keren Hayesod is ex-
pected to raise $110 mil-
lion in the year ending in
June, he said.
The Keren Hayesod, in
addition, will take part in
the five-year campaign to
raise $1.2 billion for the re-
habilitation of 45,000 poor
Artist Exposed as Nazi,
Miami Man Tells SS Tie
TORONTO (JTA) —
Ernst Zondel, a 39-year-old
commercial artist who led a
group of pickets protesting
the NBC film "Holocaust"
under the guise of "Con-
cerned Parents of German
Descent," has been exposed
as an active Nazi.
According to Mark
Bonokoski, writing in the
Toronto Sun, Zondel is the
author of the book "The Hi-
tler We Loved and Why."
In Miami Beach, a man
has admitted under oath
that he once wore the black
uniforni of the Ukrainian
SS and guarded Jewish
prisoners at the Treblinka
death camp in Poland dur-
ing World War II.
Feodore Fedorenki, 70,
is charged with lying to
authorities in 1949 about
his World War II activi-
ties in order to become a
U.S. citizen, had denied
that he was anything
more than a forced la-
borer for the Nazis.
Fedorenko is scheduled to
go to trial on the charges in
Fort Lauderdale federal
court in May. He could be
stripped of his citizenship if
the government can prove
he lied.
Fedorenko said he was
forced to work as a car-
penter in Treblinka build-
ing barracks and was later
given military training. He
said he "never hit anyone
(Jewish inmates)" at the
camp, but Jewish witnesses
described him as a brutal
guard who carried a lead
sap to beat prisoners. They
also accused him of shooting
prisoners and forcing them
to jump into fiery pits.
He is also a member of the
political sciences depart-
ment at Bar-Ilan Univer-
sity. He is best known for
his acclaimed biography of
Israel's first premier,
entitled "Ben-Gurion,
State-Builder."
